Designing a tool for organizations to engage and recognize contributors

I'm exploring the idea of a tool that helps organizations engage and recognize volunteer contributions. Similar to Smile.io but designed for community & volunteering rather than for customer engagement.
If there are any ex- or current community managers out there with experience managing and engaging communities with a brand or product, I'd love to connect and have a qualitative chat about contributor communities.
