(Dev)Ops as a service. Need your opinion
Hey IndieHackers, I wanted to get your thoughts on the idea I have been thinking about for a while. In my daily life I work as an Infrastructure engineer maintaining internal platform for developers. I have been doing this for quite a while and I believe that the platform approach might be interesting to indies and small teams as well.
In essence I am talking about outsourced DevOps services and operations. There are many cloud providers, low and high level (AWS, GCP, Azure, Heroku and so on). What I could offer (and potentially extend on) is an outsourced opinionated DevOps experience and operations. For example I could cover CICD, Cloud Infrastructure, Monitoring / Metrics, Backups and DR, Security (with industry best-practices and third-party tool integrations).
To be clear, I am thinking about hosting your application on my side and provide you with access and some kind of SLA. The concept is not fully matured in my head, but such offerings do exist on the market.
I believe there are many benefits to the approach like saving time, better uptime, scalability, reliability, industry best-practices applied and finally - you can talk to a real human (me 😄) and get direct support. I would like to know your thoughts on this and whether you think that it is a sane idea in general / might be interesting to you. Or maybe this is something which you already use.
Sounds interesting. But I have to say, hosting on your side and giving me access with some kind of SLA does not "work" for me. That said, I am probably not your target market.
Is this almost like platform-as-a-service but by a human? Is that your USP?
I'm in a similar boat as OP, but I share the point regarding hosting with limited access to the platform. The idea of devops as a service appeals to me, so here is my take on it:
Right, PaaS by a human, like you say, (and codify it as I go along). Workloads will be running in containers and you will get the access to containers, logs, metrics and test environments. Think Managed Service Provider offering platform as a service on a micro scale.
Might be useful for people focusing on MVPs, maybe? Especially if you take care of the security part as well.
