Development as product?
Hi! I have been thinking into making something like "development as product"
So I am a python developer and work with django mostly.. It is easier for me to create ready to scale / custom apps in certain niches like ecommerce.
What about this:
I offer a custom ecommerce for everyone for a certain price let's suppose 399$ plus a 29$ monthly fee (or even free if no sales are made).
Well.. Custom, but not alot custom. It would be semi custom.. The ecommerce owner won't be able to ask for big changes if he not pays for it. But in the beginning, I will be supporting him. It is not scalable, but I think it would be a win win business.. Have anyone seen examples of business like this? Thanks in advance.
The latest IndieHackers podcast talks a bit about this model. She called it "white labeling," where apps are built in an area and then companies pay to put their branding on them.
Specific to ecommerce, this sounds a lot like Shopify
Although I haven't seen such a model in the market yet, I think you need to speak to the developer community directly @M4rk. That's what has worked me as well, when I started building ruttl.
Probably check out the discord channel of Avalon Army (Just google it up and you'll get it). They have a tech and developer channel where you might be able to get some opinion on this question of yours.
