Devs: What drives (or kills) your enjoyment of programming?

I'm a web & app dev and as I'm getting a couple startup projects to MVP, I've been thinking a lot about the dev work I enjoy vs what I don't.

For me, I'm all about the creative ideation angle — I really love getting the vision from my head into an MVP, duct-taped together sort of proof of concept stage. Setting up initial MVC scaffolding is always super fun for me, for example.

But things like bug hunting, refactors to make the app scale better, etc. always have me procrastinating and take a lot of willpower to get myself to do, which makes sense when I look at them through that lense of "bringing the creative vision to life," since they're not in line with that.

And so I ask: what is your core motivator? Curious what sorts of things other devs find fun vs. draining. (I've always kinda doubtfully wondered if there are devs out there that enjoy refactors and bug squashing)
