Is English your second language? I launched a tool for ESL (English as a Second Language) students to expand their vocabulary by solving word puzzles. The current version is free, and no registration is needed. I am looking for feedback to improve it.
Cool idea - haven't seen anything fresh for ESL for a long time that doesn't look like a school textbook from the 90s. I like that everything works right away without registration, it greatly reduces the entry threshold. The game approach is generally super, it's much easier to get involved, especially if studying is usually boring. It would be interesting to see the progress/statistics - what words I already know, where I often make mistakes. And maybe add the ability to compete with friends or see the global rating - this will warm up the interest. Overall, a very promising project, especially if the adaptive learning system works as stated.
Thank you kindly. Yes. And yes. Competing against others is on the roadmap. Also sharing a specific puzzle (asynchronously) with other users/students. At this point, I am working to refine the basic (free) version and working out what will go into the future (paid) version. Creating your learner profile and tracking your progress will be key. Anong other interesting features, I plan to add ability of users to focus their learning on specific subject areas like #business or #technology or #legal, etc.
Looks really promising, Good beat version but Ui can be a bit better as you progress more. Will you be down for a collab with mileston.co? I saw you are planning to launch paid versions soon
Taking note. A bit too early at this point. I plan to spend some time iterating over the free version. Let's talk later this year...
Hi pixelbox,
I think the concept is really cool, helping ESL learners through puzzles is a great idea!
That said, I feel like the interface could be a bit more modern. It currently feels a bit too static, and I think making it look and feel more like a game (with animations, sound, or playful design) could make it more engaging and fun to use.
Keep it up though, it’s definitely a solid foundation!
Thank you for this note. For the moment, I am betting on the fact that my target audience - white collar, academic bookworms, etc - are going to prefer this minimal design. In other words, it is by design the opposite of the Duolingo style. The future will show if my bet is correct...
