Did Some Research on SaaS Pricing: Most Expensive Categories, Features, and More

I recently decided I wanted to get a better understanding of SaaS pricing, so I created a dataset with pricing data from various software categories and products.

Below are some questions I was curious about and the answers I got. This is based on a total of 743 unique software categories and 6563 unique products. So this data is obviously non-exhaustive, but imo interesting anyway.

What are the most expensive software categories?

Based on the median pricing of plans, the most expensive software categories are Banking Systems (little surprise, I guess?) with a median plan price of $5000, Financial Risk Management with a median plan price of $995, and Tour Operator software (say what?) with a median price of $900.

Which categories & products offer the most features?

Knowledge Base software seems to offer the most features with an average of 132 features per product, Job Board software with an average of 68 features, and Employee Monitoring software with an average of 67 features.

The 3 top products in terms of # of features are Zoho CRM with 137 features, WellnessLiving with 102, and Zoho Recruit with 91.

What features are most common in expensive plans?

I was curious to see what type of features occur most frequently in the most expensive pricing plans, and how much those plans go for. Here are the top 3:

Reporting - found in 8 out of the top 500 most expensive plans. The median price for the plans with reporting as a feature is $85.
Unlimited Users - found in 7 out of the top 500 most expensive plans. The median price for the plans with unlimited users as a feature is $89.
Premium support - found in 5 out of the top 500 most expensive plans. The median price for the plans with premium support as a feature is $40.

These were some of the questions I tried answering with the data. I’m planning on adding more data points and products/companies to the dataset in the future but wanted to share preliminary insights to see if others find it useful as well.
