Digital Agency Homepage - be hypercritical!

https://yabhq.com

My company just launched our brand new site, and we went pretty bold with it. We decided to go all dark UI for the homepage - https://yabhq.com.

This is a pretty bold move, and I'm hoping it's going to pay off on the WOW factor.

Please take a look at let me know what you think. Be Hypercritical (but keep it kind).

Hey Chris, looks like I found the opportunity to hit you right back with some feedback :). Honestly I'm having a hard time, it looks fantastic and the information is clear and presented well (I was a product design lead for a series A startup, hopefully that gives me some credibility).

The only feedback I have actually is your hero section. It's really tall (do you really need that much space for your top nav?) so on my 13" mbp your CTA is almost below the fold. Your body copy "We build the app of your dreams with beautiful interfaces and powerful software" is great but it also made me think you were a design agency at first as well.

Separate from that, look out from an email from chris@scoops.io - I'm willing to pay for a bit of dev work on Scoops and want to know what you charge :)

    Hey Chris,

First, the design decision works really well. I think your move paid off. It looks great and looks like an agency I'd want to talk to build something.

From a copy perspective, everything is pretty well buttoned up. There are a few minor things I would consider.

    Headline:
Nice, clear and concise. I get what you do right away. The only nitpick that I have is that it's common. I've seen that before.

I think your subhead is a little more impactful. It's also a direct benefit to the customer. You're going to build the app of their dreams. That speaks directly to them. Imagine that your customer has been shopping for different agencies. You can almost imagine that every one of those agencies told your customer that they "build great digital products". It's good for keywords/buzzwords. But it doesn't invite a conversation.

If you tell your customer that you're going to build the apps of their dreams, that starts a conversation about what that app is, what it would take, etc.

Your development roadmap has the same symptom. It's concise but it's reusable. Slightly robotic. I've worked at multiple agencies who have used pretty much the same copy.

I think the personality and conversation that you start in the bulleted copy is more effective. For example:

"starts with understanding what you want to build, and then exploring the possibilities you may not even be thinking of."

That indicates the level of planning, which I think is going to get more attention than just saying you plan.

I've personally used this line way too much - "from concept to completion". It's another bit of copy that is becoming too reusable. When you're building something for somebody, you're doing more than just building something. You're bringing their idea, their vision, their plan for their future to life. Talk about that a little.

This line feels out of place - "Do more. With Less."

What does that mean? What "less" are they getting? It's another slogan that gets overused. If it's something truly descriptive of your agency, I would just consider a better way to say it.

"Subscribe to our Thoughts" is another piece that needs something more. I'm sure you've seen that or something similar on other sites. When I see that, I think, "get some randomness in your inbox". Make that more enticing. Why do you want to share your thoughts? Are you going to deliver what you consider invaluable information? Are you going to be fully transparent about how you grow your agency? Are you going to send out an email when you accomplish something with some great code?

On the services page, I'm sure you know that the React + React Native is all Lorem Ipsum.

The Site Technology page is empty. I imagine you're planning to list the tech you used for your site. I wonder who that is for? Are customers going to care? They may, but I would just make sure the purpose of that page is very intentional and designed to turn into business.

Overall though, I really like the design. I'm using that color scheme for something I'm doing as well, so I may be biased there.

Everything is very clean. Content is strong. You look legit.

I like your call-outs like "Fun fact! This website is currently built with Nuxt" (I'm a nuxt fan as well).

Your 404 page is great. It shows personality.

    Overall, really nice. Good Luck!

Thank you @dmontooth for the very in-depth review. We're gonna be pouring over your feedback this weekend to implement as much of it we can.

You clearly took the time to dive in and really examine the site. I really appreciate it!

No problem. Hope some of it is useful. Your site looks great, you all clearly know what you're doing.

    Yo Chris!

Took a few minutes to put together some thoughts on the site (it's absolutely beautiful, btw). I dropped some notes, as well as a 15-minute video walkthrough, here: https://reviewcycle.io/p/feb52a

Hope it's helpful! Keep up the incredible design work!

(In case you're curious, I've been a UX designer for the past 15 years, and have worked with a bunch of folks like Google, YouTube, Coke Zero, etc. to help them deliver better and more engaging experiences online.)
