Digital Marketing Best Practices?

What an amazing community!
I wanted to start a thread to discuss online marketing. I'm just starting out and I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the channels, tools, learning curve and work that is required.
Things I learned I may need to pick up: website builders, SEO, CPC ads, social media, reputation management, email marketing, CRM, webinars, video marketing, content marketing, influencers, etc.
I'm interested in hearing about challanges and success stories of fellow solopreneurs..
What do you find difficult about online marketing?
Which channels did you try?
Which SaS tools do you use?
How much time do you spend a week working on your marketing?
Do you use marketing agencies?

A few months ago, I was so confused about marketing that I thought: There must be a more systematic way to approach it, instead of firing up tons of tools and going ahead.
I created a model for my marketing, using basic building blocks like product, feature, benefit, quality, job-to-be-done, story, persona. I created them and linked them to each other. Then I defined a set of experiments I want to run, telling the stories on different channels to see what works. Finally, I realized what I was doing: Building a habit for marketing.
