Hey IndieHackers!
We just launched Dinoki!, a tiny dinosaur that lives on your desktop and actually helps you get stuff done.
What is Dinoki?
Native pixel-art AI companion. Think old-school desktop pets but with modern AI. It chats, runs tasks, and develops its own personality over time.
Built native: 6MB on Mac (SwiftUI), 69MB on Windows (WPF). No Electron bloat.
Why we built this:
Most AI apps are surveillance machines. They track everything, require accounts, and phone home constantly. We wanted AI that just works on your computer without the BS.
Privacy approach:
- No backend servers at all
- Your API keys, your control
- Works offline with Ollama
- Can't see your screen unless you share
Core features:
- Chat Mode: Quick AI access via hotkey
- Agent Mode: Autonomous task execution
- Character Mode: Personality that evolves
- 300+ models via OpenRouter
- Native performance
We're two developers building something we actually want to use. No investors, no data collection.
Looking for thoughts on:
- What stops you from trying desktop AI apps?
- Deal breakers for privacy-focused software?
- Features that would make this essential?
Anyone else miss having something fun on their desktop?
