Directory Listing Website - Partner/Advise Needed

Hi All,
I'm in the process of setting up a local directory listing website.

I am based in the UK, plenty of experience within the sector I am looking to target. There is a gap in the market, particularly within the UK, whereby agricultural/equestrian services are not particularly well advertised.

The majority of product (such as horse feed) is through word of mouth, or local supplier. Little comes up on google from these places, many do not have websites. Facebook advertising is very popular, but again - you need to know which closed groups to be part of, etc.

Therefore, I feel there is a gap in the market to start a directory listing site (think, Air BnB, Yellow Pages, etc).

I have a strategy to get this rolling, but I feel my technical ability to get this started is going to be my stumbling point. I'm looking for advice on good domain registration sites, hosting sites (to deal with traffic, as well as space for users to upload photos, etc).
I also want recommendations on directory templates, or should I be using WordPress with a Directory plug-in, etc.

I am potentially open to partnering with someone who has a genuine interest in this project, but that can be discussed.

Any advise or suggestions welcome!

    Hi,
Have you made much progress on this ? I would like to get involved

If you are comfortable with using wordpress and can get a developer who can build it for you then go with wordpress. If your happy paying a monthly fee, then I would suggest Wix or Squarespace.

For hosting and domain I would recommend Godaddy. It's not cheap but the service is very reliable. I've been using it for the past five years and never had issues.

I'd use Wordpress with a professional directory theme from Themeforest. For hosting I can recommend WPXHosting. After many years with Hostgator I decided to gradually switch all my sites to WPX as they are way faster than the shared/reseller hosting I used on Hostgator.

I would suggest you go with WordPress, I've made many directories with it but unfortunately, they weren't successful as it requires a lot on the marketing side which I lack.

Going with WordPress + a directory theme like MyListing (the one I use the most) will save you time and money as the technology doesn't really matter when it comes to directories.
