Discord or Slack

Hey,

I just launch makerpath.co and people signup to the mailing list.

Now, I would like to set up an instant chat to discuss together.

It's a makers community, learning how to launch a startup (without coding).

I hesitate to open a Slack or a Discord.

I prefer Slack but don't like the loss of messages every 10,000 messages.
I like Discord too and its free, but do people have Discord accounts?

Thank you for voting and explaining in comment your arguments :)

Discord seems to be a lot better and snappier.

I've recently seen people say on twitter that Slack is not actively designed to be a community tool and their primary focus is making money from their business offering. That being said, I prefer the experience of slack.

Why not Telegram? It's free, actively maintained with a company behind, multiplatform, supports unlimited messages and search with unlimited cloud storage and supports communities of up to 200k members

Interesting concept. Are you familiar with any thriving communities of this sort in Telegram?

What about a paid solution that is specifically for communities like https://circle.so/

Yep I discover this solution 2 months ago. It's really pro/clean/interesting product !

what did you decide in the end? i'm in a community just migrating from slack to discord, for various reasons of community features, archived messages and audio/video chats.

Slack does it for me honestly

We've just had a similar discussion this morning.
We think our userbase uses, and is most knowledgeable of, Slack over any of their others.
What do you need to keep old messages for?

Both great! You might wanna explore other tools for community building. I'd suggest looking for a solution on Virtual Mojito

I’ve tried both. And my vote goes to Slack.

if he's complaining for the usual reasons, he is really gonna hate discord!
