I created a small tool that turns a blog post into picture quotes, and some bloggers indicated that picture quotes are not very useful.
In an effort to validate this idea or pivot, I wanted to create a small poll to see if repurposing blog content is even a thing.
Feel free to comment with other ways bloggers might repurpose or distribute content.
I'd be open to repurposing interesting excerpts from my blog post on, say, Twitter. I think the main question to ask is: How are these picture quotes going to help the blogger? Where will he post them? Will he get any traffic?
Maybe do a case study where you "prove" that with 10 days of re-purposing 5 blog posts, people get X more engagement on Twitter/Facebook. Connect the product to something people care about.
Thank you for the insight, doing a case study to get data and highlight (hopefully) that picture quotes improves growth is a great idea.
Do you share your blog posts on platforms other than Twitter?
Atm not sharing them to any platform (because I'm not writing any public posts), but I can imagine I can share them to Instagram/fb as well.
Hey David, funny enough I'm creating something kindaaaaa similar. Spread is my content repurposing tool. One feature Spread has is repurposing blog posts into Twitter threads.
I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but that is our least popular repurposing feature that Spread helps with (out of three).
I don't know how much of a market there is for repurposing content, but we have over 450+ beta signups.
Keep us updated with your progress and findings though!!!
Thanks for the information! Yea, looks like Microform is very similar to the last leg of your repurpose content pipeline.
I'll definitely keep you posted!
I suspect it depends on the niche. I blog about home education, and Instagram and Facebook are the main audience drivers (Pinterest should be too but I haven’t got into that yet; Twitter isn’t really used). After publishing a post I will go and add ‘something’ to Instagram (which auto posts to fb) about it. Usually that involves taking the featured photo and writing a new bit of copy that includes a bit of the post, and some ‘read more on the blog’ blurb. I don’t know if picture quotes would work, usually the blog post is more long form (otherwise I would just post direct on IG and not blog in the first place). But some sort of automated ‘take this post and promote it on social’ would certainly be useful, likely it would need editing first still. (Also, there are things like Tailwind, buffer etc that do similar things, you could check out for ideas).
Thank you for your personal insight. Based on the poll results and various comments, I see that new copy when sharing a link it often used.
Automated promotion on social is an interesting idea. Would it be to automate or suggest new copy based on excerpts from your blog, or automating the posting at the right time with the right keywords/hashtags?
I'll check out tailwind and buffer, thanks!
I have been developing/writing content for my websites / blogs for 12+ years, I don't recall anytime where I thought a quote image would be compelling or impactful.
Suspect it depends on what your site writes about and/or if you're trying to promote a product, service, or a personal brand.
Also, it really depends on the audience, and what they would find helpful. It's all about the audience, and not the publisher. If you're Gary V., then quotes would likely work. If you're an unknown, than likely not.
The only way to know is to test and see what the engagement is on different types of content.
I generally like to produce content that provokes (or is intended to provoke) some reaction. Ask a question, show something that could connect emotionally, etc.
You never know until you test -- and even then, you don't really know if it's repeatable.
Oh, and yes I/we share content on FB & IG -- not so much on Twitter. Use Twitter more for discussions than sharing content.
Each platform is different, so posting strategies is different for each.
Great info, thanks for sharing
