Do founders need to be shameless and borderline delusional?

Growing a business is difficult. It's hard to get customers and keep your vision going. I feel like although it's standard practice to make social media posts, send cold emails, and have that "influencer" presence, there is a tint of shamelessness behind as at the end of the day, you are actively reaching out (bugging) to people who likely don't give a crap about your product.

Also, I see somewhat successful founders with a decent following make Twitter posts like "today I will re-imagine the advertising industry" or some other super ambitious stuff which just sounds delusional. Perhaps it's a good strategy to get people to accept you as a leader? I get it. You have to firmly believe in your product and vision in order to continue the grind, but I feel like some have sank too deep.

What do you think is a healthy mentality for a founder? How should a founder's social media presence/influence be like?

May be not borderline delusional but definitely shameless. Then again, extraordinary courage and vision almost always looks delusional lol

True. Just a quick comment for those who might take it too far, though: being shameless does NOT include doing things for which you really should be ashamed (e.g., being dishonest, sacrificing your values, etc.).

Yeah you just have to promote your product and endure any negativity and being banned. Although there are subtle ways to do promotion, it still feels awkward.

You need to get over your awkwardness. Noah Kagan encourages wantrepreneurs to do things that will likely get them rejected or mocked, just so you can get over your fear of rejection. He includes activities such as:

        • Ask strangers to invest $1 in your idea
        • Order a coffee and ask for a discount
        • Do 20 press-ups inside a shop (e.g., Walmart, Target)

The idea is, once you've experienced some rejection (or had people ignore you), then you'll realize it's no big deal. And, you'll be able get yourself and your business out there more easily.

X is all about taking authority. The same founder will not post the same way on LinkedIn.

It depends on which social media you are posting.

      Another brilliant perspective
