Do makers build in public on Linkedin?

Hey guys,

I'm building LaunchPedia on Twitter for a long time. I started sharing the updates on Linkedin too from some time.

But I haven't seen many Build in Public posts on my Linkedin feed like I see on my twitter feed.

Do makers share their build in public updates on Linkedin or My feed is bad?

PS: If you are building in public on Linkedin, share your profile in the comments, would love to connect.

I'm having trouble finding anyone active on linked in who's not trying to sell me some personal brand/ ghostwriting service...😐

    1. 1

There are some people though, but very less compared to the ones who sell personal brand.

Alot of people actively build in public on Twitter as it feels less formal than Linkedin. But here is a link to my profile, I would love to connect with you.

      Yeah, you are right.

Sent a connection request, let's connect on Linkedin

I tried to do it but honestly I don't think its the right platform for buildinpublic.

    1. a lot more users on the platform are 9-5 comparing to others like X
    2. very noisy where its saturated with lead gen and sales content.
    3. promotes formality over informality which made it not very fun to use
    1. 1

      You are 100% correct.

The formality over there kills all the indiehacking vibe.

Currently 744 people follow the hashtag #buildinpublic on Linkedin.

I write about my project only there and would like to encourage others to do the same.

Few days ago I posted about build in public on Linkedin and a few guys started doing it too.

Scare to Build in Public on Linkedin. Simply putting a "Building a Real Estate Startup in stelth mode" on my linkedin profile has invited many invasive emails for the last few months even though I deleted the position immediately. I may need to change my email address on Linkedin too. If anyone has read my summary, they'll know my preferred way to communicate is DM first before emails.

I get it. We all need to sell as a business but the true SELLING is to create value for your target audience, not adding more stress or spam for others. This is a big problem. Who can solve this? No wonder my clients are afraid to come on my podcast and they are not on any social media. They don't need anyone to sell to them. They have mastering the art of selling and building cashflow startups.

I think linkedin is a place where we are supposed to show case our very best professional self. So it is very hard, at least for me, to discuss something that might fail. But, I will have to do that eventually since my audience is there.

    1. 1

Yeah, that's sort of my though to for now. Twitter seems like a great place to experiment and build out in public. Whereas, LinkedIn feels very much like a professional resume and job networking site.

      Yeah, this makes sense.

Hi, I have started sharing little snippets of my SaaS journey on LinkedIn. I have 2 topics, one is related to the SaaS journey, and the other is the subject of my startup (data analysis for non-analysts).
I am very careful what I post, but I like the platform. I may reconsider X later though to do proper build in public.

I’ve been active on Twitter and tried to write on LinkedIn but my engagement there is terrible. I’d love to help each other build in public. I’m @byhazellim on both platforms.

    1. 1

Hey hi Hazel, I follow you on Twitter. Donno that you are on Linkedin.

Sent a connection request just now.

  10. 1

Hey Karthik, I think it can work! But what I see a lot of on LinkedIN:

    1. Resume and Accomplishment Showcasing
    2. Nuggets of wisdom carousels by creators

Twitter feels more like the wild west and a place that lends itself to building in public or just trying out things that may or may not work.

    Just my thought.

I haven't started there yet but I plan to do it.

    1. 1

      All the best man 🎉

      1. 1

Thanks, let's see how it goes

  12. 1

I do see some posts of people building in public on LinkedIn, but it is not that common and doesn't receive engagement as compared to twitter (or should I say X).

But I think if the people you're are building for are very active on LinkedIn, then it is a good idea to be posting there.

    1. 1

Instead og building in public, sharing your lessons will get more reach on Linkedin.

      1. 1

Exactly. Good way to sum it up.

  13. 1

I haven't done the #buildinpublic thing there but I have been posting my work here and there as I build. Rather than re-building a following on some other platform from scratch, I would love to take advantage of my network there. It just makes sense. I hope to see a lot more of it, especially as the market shifts.

I will say, for whatever reason, the response I get on LinkedIn is far greater and supportive than the responses on Twitter.

    1. 1

What type of content you post on Linkedin?

  14. 1

@farez has been building in public → https://www.linkedin.com/in/farez/

I've just started to use LinkedIn more and also working how I can do some more building in public. It would be great to connect with more makers there, here's my profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/catherineraffaele (and let me know you're from here!)

    1. 2

Thanks for the mention, @catr! Yes, I've been sharing on Twitter and LinkedIn.

Happy to connect with other makers: https://www.linkedin.com/in/farez/

Awesome man, Sent a connection request.

    2. 1

I just sent a connection request. It did not give me the option to add a note.

    3. 1

      Sent a connection Catherine 🤗

  15. 1

I've seen it, although the support doesn't compare to how it is on Twitter

    1. 1

Yeah, i too feel the same.

  16. 1

Yes you should try this .
Linkedin is very famous applications now to your queries and the business posts.

  17. 1

Maybe we can try it on linkedin if our target audience there. I m not yet doing this, but seem possible

  18. 1

I share progress updates every week on Linkedin and other networks/communities.

    1. 1

      That's good man

Could you share your linkedin profilem, would love to check it out.

      1. 1

Check the Linkedin in my profile, and should be easy to find the updates.

  19. 1

I think, we should build in public where our target audience is, i am creator of aitwo .co , AI two have recently reached 700$ MRR and I am getting most of my customers from LinkedIn groups.

    1. 1

      Makes sense Usama!!

      Congratualtions on reaching $700 🚀

https://www.linkedin.com/in/ironbrands/ building Simple Analytics in public on Linkedin

  21. 1

I might give that a try. I am not an X fan, or facebook fan. I have had a LinkedIn account for a long time - I wonder how many IT/dev type people use it? It seems to me that we only really look at for specific reasons, like when we need a job ;)

    1. 1

Yeah linkedin is not a regular social media platform, we use it for a specific use case. May be that's the reason why many won't do build in public there.

  22. 1

People can build anywhere they like. :)

    Pedro

    1. 1

      Yeah, you are right.

I'm curious to know whether people are actively doing that on linkedin or not?

      1. 1

I've not seen anyone who actively builds on LinkedIn.

Most people use LinkedIn to build their personal brands and showcase industry expertise to attract opportunities.

        1. 1

Absolutely, LinkedIn is a powerful platform for building personal brands and highlighting industry expertise to attract new opportunities.

        2. 1

Yeah, I'm also seeing the same on Linkedin.
