Do Social Proof Tools work?
I was thinking to add social proof notification to my website.
Has anyone used such tools in his/her ecommerce websites/shopify?
anyone finding it increasing sales?

If it's ones with pop ups that show 'x has just bought y'...I don't know if they work, but I sure do hate them. For me they have a negative effect and I would be less likely to buy if I saw that.

Exactly! Even i do not like such Pop ups, but if they really help increasing the sales/signups on website, that wont be an issue for me.
I need to know if it really works for general audience or not.
Those notifications "X booked a room at Y right now" or "72 people purchased X in last 3 hours" had some success first few months, but as anything else it got spoiled fast with fake data and artificial interactions, randomly generated numbers of visits/bookings/purchases are created and killed most of the confidence in those metrics. Just very, very uninformed would believe it, there is a lot of sites caught "red hand" with javascript social-interaction-generator snippets and plugins and people tend to not forget when company is trying to fool them.

also if you search on twitter you'll find code snippets and tweets where people are raging on the biggest travel companies or booking platforms, some less than another but still, it's probably something that you don't really need.
