Do [x] and they will come!

We all know about 'build it and they will come' saying that fills people with false hope.

The problem is people take it quite literally.

Building a business is not about creating and coding a product.

It's about all the pieces that need to happen to support it.

The longer you can put off the actual building, the better, probably.

Do "x and they will come".

Replace x with:

  • Curate
  • Have conversations
  • Help people
  • Connect people
  • Be authentic
  • Speak the truth
  • Write and publish
  • Help people believe in themselves
  • Believe in yourself
  • Share your stories
  • Study the problem
  • Learn all you can about your people

Then build it, and they will come.

My fav is “write for yourself, but make it digestible for others”.

Having people engage it a lot of fun. :)

I like your fav, it is also my fav. Stay true to yourself and they'll come :)

    "Obsess over your customers"
    "Zag when others are zigging"
"Focus on first principles, not flavour-of-the-month 'best' practices"

      Yes, great additions.

    Rosie, on point, as always.

I think this is essential for businesses trying to make a lasting change in their communities because it focuses on the people, really, not "the users", but the people.

This is insightful, thanks for this!
