Do you do any bookkeeping?

This is something I've been wondering about as I rarely see indie hackers talk about it. What precautions do you take to keep accurate financial records?

I used to keep track of expenses in a google sheet, and I stored my receipts in google drive. I don't do my own taxes, so I tend to pay an accountant once a year to take care of all of that. In the US, the tax laws are, let's say, non-trivial. So I'd rather pay a few hundred bucks and sleep better at night.

My accountant, to do his best job and save me the most amount of money, needs accurate info on income and expenses. For me this tends to be a lot of small transactions all over the place, and I ended up not enjoying dealing with google sheets and google drive.

My solution was to build https://bookslyte.com. My app can keep track of income and expenses, and now also deals with receipts and report generation. I'd like to add integration with bank and credit card accounts next to automate even more of this record keeping. Ideally, I end up with a fully automated system, but I think that's farther into the future.

Regardless, it's been a better solution than google sheets and google drive so far. But I'm curious, what do other people do when it comes to bookkeeping and accounting?
