Do you care about being hacked?
I'm a security person primarily so it's very easy for me to think that everyone should care about security.
I have an assumption that people want to know whether or not they have been hacked or whether they are at risk (i.e. passwords are out on the internet). I know that the technology is there for this to be possible and security is becoming more widespread especially during the pandemic and people working remotely.
I wandered, as an Indie hacker - have you ever though about your own security? Have you ever thought about the amount of accounts / credentials that you have out on the internet that could be stolen?
I realize this is just initial exploration, but your question is probably far too broad to be of much use. I guess other than the fact that if everyone responded no then there wouldn't be much more digging to do. I think more specifically though you want to know what people's biggest security concerns are, what aspects of their security are they concerned is weakest, and what would be the most damaging thing to them if it was compromised, etc.

I’m at exactly this stage. I think entrepreneurs and small busy owners should worry and care about data breaches. If you’re building an app you’ve got a legal and moral obligation to protect your users data. I’m looking to productive security awareness with a few cool tools. But it’s a hard sell. Yeh I agree, one of the angles of my product is to allow businesses to offer it to their staff - its personal security awareness which breaks the traditional business > staff relationship and engages them on another level. I have a day to day cyber security business which does this too, would love to connect and chat!

Yes and no. It's a stupid question because if I was hacked and lost anything of value of course I'd care. But I don't really care because I have insurance, and I'd recoup the losses if there were any.
I don't really care about being hacked, because I do many things to prevent that: 2FA, unique passwords, etc.
Wouldn't the fact that you've taken those actions mean you do care about being hacked? It feels like it's more that you feel secure against being hacked versus that you don't care about being hacked.
Hmmm, technically: yes, but I would do that anyway — regardless of the risk of being hacked :-)
I have had stuff hacked, but as I'm aware of stuff I guess, nothing became too widespread. I've also locked myself out from stuff for good, which is more frustrating ^^.
I am a Dev with some sec awareness but not as my primary job.
The social problem with sec is the default assumption socially work under is that usually things are good...
I think the dev industry disappoints greatly on expectations around security and lack of interest/priority....
You might already know but suppose some password managers tell your if your passwords were in a dump list
I think 1password does this and checks your passwords for hacks. My project does something similar, it finds all the accounts that you have and then monitors them for you, you get an alert if they are hacked with advice on what to do next. I'm going through a period of being unmotivated so was looking to see what others thought!
Thought I'd explain here; I have a product https://usewarden.com - It's my side project alongside my core security consultancy business. You connect your accounts and it takes care of the rest, you'll be personally monitored 24/7 and alerted to any threats or risks. I asked the question as I made a big mistake.. I keep building and not validating!! I've almost completed the iOS and Android apps and have been having one of those days of no motivation so it was important to me to try and engage the community. Any thoughts are really appreciated.

This is really interesting.. one of the key features is my product identifies all of the accounts associated with a gmail / outlook / ms365 account.. on average it finds over 300. In v1 you used to be able to delete them but I'm reworking the feature at the moment!

Thanks for the response, this is specifically around your accounts and digital footprint.. e.g. warden found that x company has your Information and then you will get alerted if there is a hack

Do you subscribe to any breach monitoring websites or apps? If you did, what kind of stuff would you find useful to know?

Ok cool, thanks for your responses. My project shows you all of your accounts and monitors them for you - you then get alerts if they are hacked and tips on what to do. I was looking to see what others on IH thought and it's similar to most - it's a side thought, not enough for someone to want to go and get a product to help them!
