Absolutely! I think it's crucial to measure the % of users who come to you app/website -> signup page -> successful signup -> complete first action.
It helps to use a tool like Mixpanel to track those and I often run A/B tests to try and improve the various drop offs. Just last week, I found a couple improvements that combined improved my funnel by ~14%. (This was a rare thing.)
But! Unless you have a super mature product there are always so many tricks you can try out and apply (but always test first) like:
Remove password confirmation (better have a password reset)
Remove any useless field - do you need first AND last name?
Change the wording on CTAs
Try new signup methods - like signup AFTER your first day or phone # instead of email
If your conversion rate is <20% you could pretty easily double it with these types of techniques.
I’ve looked at over 100 products on here and maybe 50% could use significant improvements. But... I think you can sell without worrying about CRO right away as there is no way to measure if treatment is outperforming the original, unless you start running a bunch of ads or you have significant inbound traffic. Still, better to have the basics in place as a few sales early on is a great motivator.
I mean what else can you care about if it's not for CRO? This is your business revenue, the MOST important thing. I've recently implemented a personalization engine named Twik, it tracks user activity, performs user profiling and audience targeting to serve each user tailored content to improve CRO, that's after I've had a lot of time optimizing my campaigns to drive the right traffic to my website.

Great comment Mark!!
Which tool do you use to run A/B testing?
Yes. Made an entire product for that: swipe.page

You are on the top end of IHers here!
But clearly this post didn't go too far, so I'm not so sure about it.
Thanks for your comment, and your product looks awesome!
Appreciate your kind words!

I so agree! Haven't gotten much into it yet. Do you track it? Would love to hear your take
Hola!

I care deeply about it. It's exceptionally important once you get some validation your idea has merit.
That's awesome!
Which tools do you use to improve it?
