Do you check your email?

Email has become an incredibly time and energy consuming chore. It can be so much better with tooling but even trying all these tools is so much work.

I am curious about what the IH community thinks about email services like Superhuman and Hey. I am currently testing out Hey. Superhuman required me to schedule an onboarding, and I don't have the time and energy for that so I skipped. I loved Google Inbox, but of course Google had to kill it.

    Hi Ozgur,

I use Newton (https://newtonhq.com/) as my email client, which is primarily because of the UI. I think it all comes down to personal preference. I've tried Superhuman and Hey, but they didn't offer the magic formula for dealing with my inbox.

I think you are already on the right track, trying out a couple of new clients. Test run them for a week or two and see what you like/dislike about the services. In the end, you'll end up with the email client that most suits your workflow.

Besides the email client, ask yourself why you are spending so much time on email. For example, could you get away with clearing your inbox once every week instead of every day? Or is there something else you could change about the way you get through your inbox? The book "Make Time" by Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky has an excellent short chapter on dealing with your inbox that might be of value for you.

Because in my experience (and I've changed a lot between email clients), a new email client doesn't have as much impact on your inbox as you'd like.

    I hope this helps! 🚀

Thanks for the suggestion. I've watched their video but couldn't see anything that jumped out at me.

Does it offer a specific feature that helps with your inbox or is it mostly the superior UX?

It's mostly the UI/UX that suits my workflow. I won't say it's especially superior to any of the other email clients out there (except outlook and Apple mail).

In my experience, there aren't that many features in any of the email clients out there that will make a dent in the time you spend on emails. I think it's 90% workflow, 10% email client. Heck, when I used Google inbox and hey, it sometimes hid emails from me that I needed to see.

          Got it, thank you!
