Do you cold email? What's your response rate)

We send out (what I think is a lot of cold emails), and get ~60-70% open rates but very few replies (3-5%). Some people simply respond saying "unsubscribe" or "take me off this list".
Curious if others cold email, what your response rate is, and how you deal with rejection (it is quite disheartening!)

    Currently doing cold email for a B2B SaaS targeting medspas. 80 emails sent across 17 US cities, all heavily personalized (I research each prospect individually — their hours, services, owner name). Still early so my sample size is small, but the emails where I mention a specific pain point about their business ("you're closed Sat-Sun, that's 48 hours of missed calls") are getting opened way more than the ones where I lead with what my product does. The reply to the person struggling with low reply rates — try flipping your email. Start with their problem, not your solution.

    Email marketing has become a lot less effective over the last few years. This is due to the fact that a lot of people are now using it.

    You can still make it work if you are in B2B SaaS.

    There are no published average open rates (or reply or conversion rates) for cold emails. It depends on many variables: your target audience (and how well your email relates to them), copy of your email (are you hitting the right triggers), etc, etc.

    Your open rate is damn good. So you must have a good subject line. Your reply rate is very small (you should be able to get above 10% after the first email, given your open rate). Typically, you have to set up a cadence (for up to 6-7 times) in order to solicit a reply. The timing of the day is also crucial. If you are trying to reach c-suite executives, for example, you better email them between 6 am to 9 am.

    If you want to master email marketing just internalize the following: the purpose of your first email is to get a conversation going. Always, always, always end your email with a question.

      Thank you, this is really good advice. Should I really be emailing cold contacts 6-7 times, though? It seems like spam / people will get very upset

        There are many sales tools on the market that will help you automate this outreach campaign for you. Drip, Mailchimp, and others allow you to do that just that.

    Below 10% response rate is considered usual. However, you “unsubscribe” type responses suggest that you are sending out nonpersonalized mass general email campaigns to a list which you acquired without consent. I might be wrong. You can improve your response rate if you send less but to be more specific and personal.

    Why would I want your cold email? Do I know you? Are you going to save me money? Can I trust you?..

    You know flyers spam in phisical boxes has like 0.01% response rate, yet it's profitable..

    If you haven't yet been put on every spam list around you must be doing something half decent.

    Your seeing better response rates than I ever have. In a previous job we were cold emailing a database of 100k and when I left we were half way through and (excluding unsub responses) had around 5 responses.

    Your problem is inboxing . I bet 90% of your email never reached the intended recipient. One of my partners uses this https://www.emailinboxer.com/

    I don't cold email, but maybe I can bring another similar tactic to the table that has worked for me: cold DMing on Twitter.

    I identify accounts with profiles most similar to my current users/customers, personalize short DMs, and get a 10-20% response rate easy.

    In fact, I signed up my first few paying customers this way.
