Do you enjoy discussing the books you read?
I'm working on a project trying to reinvent book clubs for a more general appeal. I want to understand if people enjoy reading and discussing books as part of a small online group. How can we make reading more social in the digital age and get more people reading good books?
following! I usually read non-fiction and don't really care to discuss those most of the time. I read / listen to books constantly so I am always looking for trusted recommendations to add to my queue (this could be social if we could follow others with similar taste, preference in reading)

have you started exploring the status quo on products that would be your competitors? if so, what are the standards like?
There are a few sites doing online book clubs, but none of them are really trying too hard into making books more social. Most are very basic. Then there is Goodreads.com (Amazon), which is more focused on book reviews/discovery. They have groups but is not really what I want to do.
I plan to allow a small group form around a certain type of book/location, and let them suggest books, vote on them, discuss them, chat. Small social networks centered on books.
do you think you could start by validating the model of these group formats first? Maybe with an email group? Perhaps this could be a way of making sure that enough people are interested in a format like that before even spending money/time on development or setting up!

We hacked together a very basic MVP with few very basic functions to test our thesis, will share with the community next week. Still, I wanted to learn a bit before we show the idea.
