I know we’re all Indie, but some of us have an employee or two. Given that, do you ever want insights into why visitors to a job listing don’t apply?
I can tell you a lot about this. I get several messages on linkedin weekly, and I pass on almost each one. Sure, I'm not looking for a job, but even if I was, some messages are terrible. Examples:
they tell me about their company, but only about they company. Not about the position.
Yeah, nice company. What do you want from me? what I'm going to be doing on your company?
misterius messages like "we have open positions, if you are interesed, send me your CV".
You need to work harder, my recruiter friend :). Also, my linkedin is my cv, just read it.
Nice company, nice job, good money, but in the opposite part of the country. And no mention about moving or remote. I even got one about "an opportinuty for next week, in another country".
What I really feel is a completly lack of empathy. I get it, coders and HR are two very different tribes. But recruiter really need to start exercising empathy, and think as a coder.
The market for technical people is very fierce here in my country, and I assume is pretty much the same in other countries. If you want to get the attention of senior and established developers, don't ask them to "apply", you have to apply for their attention.
Very insightful response! I appreciate it.
Interesting thoughts on the disconnect between Tech Workers and HR. What do you think are the most important things that Tech Workers think about when they are going through a job search?
I am actually building a solution focused on helping Tech Workers improve the company research part of their Job Search. Right now all the good info is extremely fragmented. Would love your thoughts!
Allcompany.io is the website.
I had the opportunity to chat with some HR trying to do Tech Recruiting. It is hard for them. They see developers as some awkward nerds that make more money than them (I'm exaggerating a little bit :) )
Most developers are introverted, and most HR are extroverted. There is an issue there. As a rare extroverted developer, I had to deal with leading an introverted team. It wasn't easy. Recruiters need to learn how to connect with people that are really different from them.
Since you are on this market, I would suggest keeping an eye open to see opportunities serving the recruiters.
Thanks for the feedback! Will keep that in mind as the difference is a major speedbump for technical recruiters.
