Do you get my Landing Page?

Hi,

when explaining to people in real life what digester does, I sometimes struggle to really nail it down to one or two sentences.

Similarly on my landing page, I tried to make it as clear as possible with as few words as possible, but it's difficult to me look at it from a user's perspective after all this time.

Therefore, if you have a minute, please head over to https://digester.app and let me know:

  • what do you think digester is doing?
  • how does your understanding evolve the more you read? Is it already clear after the subtitle?
  • what do you think could be improved?
  • (if you are non-technical) is there too much jargon?

    I am not a copywriting expert, but happy to lend my impressions.

    1. I immediately get what it is, so good job there! (Bias note: "digest" can mean diff things to different people, so not everyone may get that. Maybe like "Turn your all-day distractions into consolidated daily or weekly collections" or something may help)
    2. The How It Works part actually confused me a bit. Could you use something more widely familiar like a Twitter post digest?
    3. Kill the side panel from the regular view. That can tray-out when needed.
    4. I got the "what" quickly, but didn't quite get the "why" I would want to use this.

    I think you can probably nail this value prop with about 140 characters and people will get it. That and a pretty screenshot is all you need, with a "Try it!" CTA. My suggestion: "Turn your all-day distractions into consolidated daily or weekly emails. Stay focussed without missing important updates or news!" (I'm sure someone else has something better here.

      • re 1: I kind of want to keep the word "digest", because it's the name. but I hear you. Perhaps I need to rephrase it.
      • re 2: very good point. those are old screenshots from before I had twitter
      • re 3: you mean the side pannel should be hidden by default? I think that makes sense on the landing page, yes.
      • re 4: this is a really good point. I never really thought that the "why" could be an issue. My thinking was that "of course everybody feels this way".

        My pleasure, happy to help. I like the idea - totally see the value. I kind of "hacked" my own way of doing this with RSS feeds for some things I want to follow.

        1. Good point. Maybe say digest, but then also articulate what it means - that can kind of be covered in the explanation.
        2. Yes, exactly!
        3. Totally. As a general rule it's always good to rearticulate the pain or need, even if it seems obvious/universal. Just helps with the storytelling.

          I kind of "hacked" my own way of doing this with RSS feeds for some things I want to follow.

          So then my question is: What is missing with digester that would make you use it instead of your "hacked" way? :)

            Haha. Well in the hacked case, you're limited to RSS feeds, and there isn't any kind of smart filtering. So Twitter isn't an option, for example. Something that can connect a number of sources and curate it for me would be cool.

              So if I'm understanding you correctly you're missing some advanced filtering in digester.app? Can you please describe what exactly you'd like digester to be able to do?

              Just in case it's not clear, digester is already fully functional and if RSS is your only use-case, you could migrate today. In fact, if you send me a list of your RSS feeds, I'll do it for you. :)
