Do you guys think there's a need for a new video platform?
I've been thinking lately that the Youtube experience has gotten more loaded with many things that hurt the experience, among them:
- Popups asking you to sign up for Youtube Premium or TV
- What's the difference between Youtube TV and Youtube Premium?
- The privacy issues with Google
Do you guys think there's space for a simple video website? maybe focused in one category, tutorials for instance.
Also, I know Youtube is amazing at many recommending you the right videos and teaching you tons of things with all the content creators that they have, but I was wondering if there might be a chance to compete, at least in a specialized category
There has been a similar question a few weeks back...
It's expensive to run a video service, unless you find an early income module, you'd need a ton of cash to sponsor it for a long while.
There are a few other small services today.

In a "general" term - it will be hard to monetise I guess. There is at least Vimeo which IMHO gives the "professional" clean look as opposed to youtube (a mess of videos).
Other aspect - this is a cash burner in terms of infrastructure. Google was burning lots of money in the beginning. Just imagine - data traffic, storage, CPU power for processing.
To make something like it work I'd guess you need to find a niche for these videos (very specific and the one people would like to pay for). Also put a lot of effort in moderating it - more like a community.
Yes - if you're solving these problems. How?
No - if you're building another YouTube. Video for tutorials: what makes you better than Udacity, Treehouse, Skillshare, Udemy and many more?

Well yes.
The real question is, what will make it different/better and how will you fund the insane costs.
I imagine there could be. But maybe in the form of letting people spin up their own instances simple and possibly having an aggregator they can federate with for Ads.
Definitely could see a freemium, with one main hub model.
