Do you have a mentor or are looking for one?

Hey guys I would like to know,
if you have a mentor, where did you find him/her and how do he/she help you?

If you don't have a mentor do you sometimes feel like you need one and if so why?

I sometime would like to have a mentor to check back on my actions as I think it can accelerate me to success.

    Hey Kevin,

I was always thinking of getting a mentor but never had a real approach to it. Until one day I saw a tweet saying you shouldn't ask someone to mentor you. Simply because everyone successful is busy - makes sense I guess. The suggestion was to simply ask specific questions instead of just "wanna be my mentor?". Since that tweet I do that and ask a group of people for their feedback on my ideas. The more you practice this the more you learn how to do it (as usual haha).

    Good luck with your project!

    Peter

I had a mentor myself for a long time. Helps with accountability a lot.

Hey man thanks :D Just to be open with you I actually try to create a similar platform https://meetyourmentors.carrd.co/
maybe we could have some chat and talk because it wouldn't make much sense to me to do a copy of yours but I would like to figure out how to move it into a different direction to create something complementary.

Seems like your app is going into a different direction. Happy to see what comes out of it. Interesting concept.

If you want to brainstorm together, hit me up on Twitter.

I understand and comprehend that I'd love to have a mentor, but never really had the chance to find one. I don't know why, maybe just because I'm learning from everyone all the time and every day.

Instead, I found myself mentoring multiple people and I love everything about that. I see how people grow over the time, make better decision and become better human beings.

Hey, nice question! I am searching for a long time already for some "coding" mentor and it is quite hard to find someone at least if you dont have a big budget. I tried to find someone via Codementor but that doesnt work for me.

For me it is easier to not call them mentor. I have a couple of people as friends and as network who I admire for different things. If I need some advice I just ask them. But it is not an "official" thing like an determined mentorship / coaching.

For me, it was always through an existing program.

Went through Techstars and built and sold Uvize, an application to manage mentorship relations in programs like YC and TS.

For the start it will be "creating a product that people find valuable and get's to around 500$ MRR"

Nothing complicated and nothing one can't do on their own. But I think with a mentor the process can be accelerated :)
