Do you have a podcast?
Keen to connect with fellow hackers & share best practices of what's been working for them and how they run their show.
Launched mine back in March with episodes every Thursday but struggling to increase listenership outside my current network. Currently getting between 100-140 downloads per episode (according to Libsyn).
Would love to get an active community of hackers who have podcasts where we could learn and help each other.
I think that's great. Until there's a more formal community, I'll start by sharing here.
My friend @excid3 and I have a podcast we started last July named Remote Ruby.
We started with small growth here and there. I think part of the reason it took a minute to get off the ground was that we recorded sporadically.
Since we began "showing up" every week, we've seen our numbers slowly grow over time. We drop an episode every Friday morning, and for the most part, we've stuck with that in 2019. Our highest downloaded episode is around ~1050 downloads, and our average is between 500-600 per episode.
I know it's not massive numbers, but I'm honestly amazed anyone listens to us. This time last year, I would never believe it. 😅
Another thing that helped us was branching out into interviews. Because of interviews, we've:
A by-product of doing more interviews is we ended up with a backlog of episodes. At one point, we were a month out in recordings. My podcast anxiety was at its lowest at that point.
We're still trying to figure out what we're doing and I'd love to hear what's working for everyone else!
Did we really only start that last July? It feels like it's been longer, but it hasn't even been a year.
I have to say, the podcast is one of my favorite things we've ever done. It's been so amazing and we literally put no effort into it at first just to prevent ourselves from procrastinating.

Couldn't agree more about the interviews and the benefits. It's a fantastic reason to reach out to people you admire or want to learn from!
I'm trying to backlog mine also, did one today, and have another one lined up for tomorrow so that'll give me effectively the next 4 weeks sorted. I do one of just me talking and updating people, and then the next week, I do an indepth interview with an entrepreneur.

Biggest drivers of listener growth has been 1) having guests on who will amplify the episode to their audience and 2) guesting on other podcasts.
