Do you have a Podcast? Can I ask about your workflow?

I’m currently building an application, Producer, to help make working on a Podcast as easy as possible (think task management, team coordination, analytics, and automation). I’m trying to get as much feedback as early as possible so I build The Right Thing™.

Can you share with me some of the tools you currently use and workflows you have?

Or even better, send me an email and we can schedule a 15 minute call about your workflows.

Thanks!

My rough process/tool list is below but first, for what it's worth, I've found that guest booking is probably the biggest "pain point" in terms of back and forth emails, scheduling, confirmation of connection information, sending along tips about audio quality and microphone, etc. I suspect this is true for podcasters at all levels, and some hire staff to coordinate it for them. If you build a tool that solves that elegantly for smaller podcast operations, and helps guests feel warmly welcomed instead of shoved through an automation, please be prepared to take my money.

    Okay, here's my process:

A few weeks out: send guest invite (template with some customization), follow up to send scheduling link, follow up to confirm and point them to my "audio tips" web page, get an image/photo of them I can use in cover art.

Hour before: test audio equipment (mic and headphones), update software (Zoom, Skype), turn off sound-generating devices and appliances, turn on DND on phone and computer.

Recording: Start zoom meeting, welcome guest, lock meeting, test sound, chat a bit to set everyone at ease, confirm personal pronouns and name pronunciation, confirm that it's okay to record, start recording.

After: wait for tracks to export, run through Levelator or similar, import into Garageband, trim out meta-conversations at beginning and end, export raw version for transcript creation, upload to transcript creation site (GoTranscript.com or Rev.com).

Post-production: edit out mistakes and pauses, check audio levels and quality, record my introduction, add music. Export to MP3 and use id3convert to remove tags.

Publication: upload to WordPress media library, create WP post, compose text, add episode audio, set featured image/cover art, add tags, confirm SEO setup, confirm podcast directory content. Add a note saying transcript is forthcoming. Preview, refine, post.

Sharing: Twitter, FB, etc. Either let my automated Mailchimp campaign handle sharing handle a notification or create a custom campaign if it needed.

Ongoing: review stats/analytics in WordPress, Matomo, podcast directories. Add transcript content back in as it becomes available.
