Do you have a product or a business?
Say you have an idea for the next great SaaS app. How do you decide if this new thing should be a product that your existing business provides, or should it be it's own separate business?
In other words, if you've already start MyAwesomeWebDevCompany, and then you come up with MyAwesomeSaaSApp, how do you decide if that app should be a product that your web dev company creates or if it should be a completely separate thing?
Good question not a single answer.
I've seen both things work well. Internal product catalogue expansion or completely new company.
I'd say it'll depend on your existing business and how it's structured, ownership, etc.
