Do you own a YouTube channel?

Hello,

I was wondering if any of you own youtube channels and use them to promote your own side business?
Maybe use them to rank higher and faster on google for your keywords thanks to youtube authority.

If you do how many videos do you have right now and do you plan on uploading more?
Do you promote your channel in any way?

I have a Youtube channel and it has been key in ranking well for specific keywords (e.g. the video appearing in the carousel at the top of search). These videos all point to specific pages on our website, which helped us build a reliable stream of organic traffic. We now have over 50 videos and the plan is to continue uploading more.

I've never promoted the channel, other than embedding each Youtube video in the relevant page on our website and making Youtube playlists etc to link to other relevant videos of ours.

We now have over 300k subscribers and we receive around 1 million video views a month. This has taken around 8 years to reach this point, so by no means crazy growth.

That's very impressive, do you do any keyword research before uploading the video? And also do you track your video ranks in some way?

I try to be tactical when naming the video, ensuring then relevant terms are included, but I don’t do any formal research.

The YouTube description and tags are also important factors in ranking. Ensuring you have clear thumbnails is also really important, as viewers often make the decision to watch based purely on the thumbnail.

Just saw your channel. Ya, like that lung sound, it is really cool even for non medicals.

It's a really good marketing channel for online business. Though we don't have one for our project yet. Decided to focus on the blog first. Surely will launch it in the next 3 months. For now have only my personal travel channel, practicing on YT stuff by it 😎

I think you may be missing out if you don't lunch it sooner, but at the same time it's good to focus on one thing.

By the way, do you mind sharing your travel video? I am a travel enthusiast myself, I will be getting on making travel videos soon, currently traveling too.

        Sure 😎. Here's one for example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwZ-Gso7a_A

Nice channel, I liked the video about Bali the most, maybe because I am currently in Bali, haha.

            Thanks, Mike 🙌
Really love Bali too. Plan to be back there next year for a couple months. Where do you stay there? Canggu is my number 1 spot there to hang out.

            1. 1

Mostly in Ubud, Canggu is too crowded for my taste, also from what I heared it may be dangerous at night, but I didn't went, so I can't say for sure.

              1. 1

Ubud is also a lovely place. Number 2 on my list :)
Lived in Canggu for 2 months last winter and haven't noticed any issues and aggressive personages there. Spent many nights hanging out from the Old Men's to Sand Bar back and forth 😎😹

Then I guess they were mostly rumors, enjoy your trip, Bali is very beautiful :)

So a friend of mine sells online classes on niche keyword targeting. He started releasing videos on the subject on YouTube in the hope it would be another channel to sell his classes to. It did get a significant amount of views so he started ramping that channel up. After a while the numbers showed that there were barely any conversions from YouTube. His newsletter had a higher percentage of conversions so he put YouTube on a backburner (he does still enjoy making the videos).

Really? I find youtube to have a good conversion rate in general, of course it doesn't compare to a newsletter, but that's because the subscribers there already trust you a lot. Also did he tried to use his youtube videos to get news subscribers to his newsletter?

Interesting question, I'm sorry to have to say I don't know the answer to!

I do. It's not as great for SEO as writing articles. It's likely you'll have to spend $ on ads if you do it to promote a product, but if you want to promote a service like consulting than it will help. Just don't expect many views if your content is technical and not entertaining.

    1. 2

I don't think your content necessarily has to be entertaining to do well, but it does need to deliver some kind of value. All of our videos are very educational in nature and we've still managed to grow an audience, by targeting a specific niche with consistent quality content.

    2. 1

You could expect some views if your video ranks for a specific keyword, but for that you would have to find medium copetitive keywords if you don't want to spend on seo.

Youtube is one of the good marketing tools. I have not uploaded yet.
    But I'll start soon :)

Yeah, I think it's so underrated.
