It requires a lot of consistency in writing valuable content that drives engagement, and visibility.
Planning this content ahead might be helpful, that's why I've started to build Tweetboard — a kanban board for Twitter content.
Building a Twitter audience has been a goal of mine for quite some time, and a few weeks I've finally decided to start doing it.
I've created a spreadsheet to plan topics and subjects that I wanted to cover, added some initial ideas — and then I stopped.
I stopped because it just didn't feel right.
Using a spreadsheet to plan and keep track of these ideas, and then using another tool to expand them to proper tweets and threads felt crazy.
As a product builder, my first thought was: what if we could do this within a kanban board?
We would just need 4 simple columns:
We could create cards for ideas, expand them to proper tweets and threads, mark them to be reviewed, and then schedule them to Twitter
Exciting right? Well at least to me, it all felt so intuitive and such a great side-project to start, that I actually did it.
Tweetboard (https://tweetboard.io) will be my first building in public adventure, and I couldn't be more excited about it.
The landing page is up, and we'll be sending the first invites to try Tweetboard in a couple of weeks — be sure to subscribe to our newsletter if you'd like to get yours.
For now, shoot me with all your questions, thoughts, and feedback you might have on planning your tweets/threads, and building a Twitter audience.
Looking good, interested in trying it when it's out.
Congrats!
Thanks @StephCode 🙌
Super interested in getting your feedback about it as well!
I set up a team to manage all my social marketing. That team creates and curates content over multiple social media accounts. Twitter is one of them. Like you said, building an audience is hard. Sure it is... It takes time and a lot of effort.
Personally and funnily enough, I feel totally turned off by all social networking sites. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram... I just don't like to be on them any longer.
I find very little value in them any longer.
Just a few years ago I was spending a lot of time on social media, and now... It's weird how that turned out.
My team does a fairly good job.
Great comment, @cyrilgupta. I'm also so done with social media. The quality of content sucks. I swear most of it is made by bots or AI because the people on them don't even see real.
Would you want to turn the sentiment of this comment into a standalone post? I can then share it with our editors for consideration on the home page. A good title might be, "Social media content is devolving into trash. Then you can expand on your reasoning.
Best,
Seth from IH
Definitely feel where you're coming from @cyrilgupta and @sethking, there is a lot of non-valuable content out there — we're talking about the Internet after all, where anyone can post/publish anything with pretty much 0 effort.
Personally what did the trick for me was just tweaking what I was following.
After some tuning I got the content that I was looking for, and it's definitely paying off 😁
I always plan my tweets one week ahead. I have shared a lot of my techniques about Twitter on my podcast
Thanks for the reference @tiagorbf! Perfect timing as well since I'm also starting to
get better at Twitter (or trying to 😅)
Will definitely listen to a few episodes of it 🙏
I hope you like it and find it useful :)
I don't schedule anything, yet again i don't have any strategy or goal to increase my followers.
That being said, the app looks nice and clean, and so does your landing page. Well done for an early stage!
I can't comment too much on the competitor space out there, though my guess would be there are huge platforms already with hundreds of features. Maybe you might hit a niche though with people just starting out.
Thank you for those kind words @manuelwill 🙌
I'm aware there are a couple of super interesting tools on this space already, but we definitely believe we can bring something new to the table!
I plan nothing. Right now I tweet as I have ideas, thoughts.
I know there's a lot more optimization or whatever I could do to get more followers, likes, retweets, etc. But right now I'm just building in public and seeing if I enjoy it enough to make it a real marketing channel for me.
If I decide to get serious, I'll consider TD!
Thanks for posting 🤜🏽 🤛🏽
Thanks for the feedback @joehhoward! Getting this sort of validation that not every one who's building in public struggles a problem like this, is definitely important for us.
If you decide to get serious and consider Tweetboard, let's connect and maybe you have interesting ideas to improve the product!
You got it, Mario!
That's the Notion template I've been using :)
I'll take that as a good sign 😎
There are already a number of twitter automation tools, what else do you offer, that the others don't, to entice me to switch?
What is your target group / ICP?
Pricing?
Thanks for raising those questions @jansroka!
Tweetboard is all about bringing the kanban approach that so many of us love to use on product management and applying it to Twitter content — I think the biggest value is not necessarily a feature, but a process.
For the target group / ICP, I would love to work closely with indie hackers, and early-stage startups.
I was thinking to have two plans:
But, I'm still trying to validate if these are reasonable or not.
What are your thoughts about it?
€8/month is way too cheap! If you really save me so much time (daily/weekly/monthly), how much is my time worth for myself? Definitely more than 8€/month.
Hypefury e.g. charges 19$/month minimum and that already is cheap for the value they bring. Don't compete on price! Differentiate on features & value provided.
What might work (just an idea) is that you differentiate by focusing on teams, not individuals, since most tools I am aware of focus on individual users & creators. There might be a nice opportunity in the SMB space. But then, no clue re price sensitivity, expected feature set, overall felt pain, etc.
Thank you so much for giving me this feedback @jansroka, I truly appreciate it.
Definitely need to think a bit more about our positioning and pricing strategy.
Lots of work and exciting conversations are certainly coming 💪
