Hi Everyone!
So, I've been thinking, for an application that doesn't require mobile native features (Like real-time location, camera and so on). Do you prefer to use it on a phone or on a computer?
I'll give more context, that way you guys can give a more specific opinion, but I still would love to hear the general argument.
I'm building a mobile app to centralize newsletters. Instead of checking your email and subscribe to content newsletters, you check them out in this app. Something close to what Spotify and iTunes are to podcasts to give a more of an analogy. Instead of going to the website of each podcast, you check one of those two and listen there.
So my question is: (After I finish building what I started) Should I build a Desktop Web Version? How about the next project, should I keep building for mobile first or later?
By the way, my personal opinion is that I prefer a desktop version. The only mobile apps I use are Uber, Google Maps, Telegram, and Whatsapp. Everything else I give preference to the desktop version.
I prefer almost averything desktop and I think most people do but mobile is still a big potential audience. It also depends on how people reach you product.
For reading newsletters, I prefer a mix of both. Newsletters can sometimes be very productive to read when you're on the go and have some time to spare.
This project sounds a bit like kill-the-newsletter.com which works with RSS and is open source (GPL 3). You might want to look into that project.
On a client's website (responsive design using Bootstrap), based on their GA stats:
2018: 32% desktop and 68% mobile/device access. Total of 2M users for 2018.
2019 to-date: 26% desktop, 74% mobile. Total to-date of 1.4M users.
Take it FWIW.
