Do you understand our product?

We've struggled to get an 'elevator pitch' together for our product as we think it can do many things for many people. This made making the landing page especially hard as we had to choose how to talk about our app while inspiring as many different types of potential users.

I'm keen to get some famous IH feedback on this new landing page and see how many of you guys understand our offering and how it might inspire you to use it.

Any and all comments/feedback much appreciated.

I say no more...roast away ๐Ÿ”ฅ

It took me a really long time to figure out what your product does, and I'm still not 100% sure. "Updates made easy" is generic to the point of being meaningless.

Even after really taking my time, I still don't understand your core pitch. Currently my impression is that this is basically a visual landing page builder. What makes your "updates" different from a simple one-page site built with Carrd, Webflow, Framer, etc.?

    1. 1

Hey @GriffinJohnston - thanks for the honesty. Truth is we are testing this use of the word 'updates' to help explain the concept, as there really isn't a single word for what they are.

A Flya is meant to be used as a document using HTML, rather than a landing page. Think of it like an interactive PDF or word doc, leveraging some simple web tech like sliders and forms to make sending content to people more interesting and engaging.

Really appreciate you hitting us with some good, hard feedback!

      1. 2

Got it. The core issue I see right now is that you're using this term "updates" without ever clearly defining it. You'd do much better describing what your product does in much more specific, literal terms right up front.

"Present any kind of information in a rich, interactive document without writing a line of code. Share with a simple link. Good for project updates, proposals, onboarding and more." โ€” You can do better than that obviously, but hopefully you see what I'm suggesting.

This is so helpful - thank you @GriffinJohnston. I'll drop you a note when we update the wording.

          Thanks so much ๐Ÿ™Œ

Happy to help. Looks like a nicely put together product, worth communicating about it well!

    Hi,

It looks nice to be honest, but you need to refine the copy a bit and add a section about what problem are you really solving. I had to go through your website and use more brainpower to figure it out.

    I left some comments here - https://visualdebug.com/show/flya.app

No idea what it is based on above fold info. What is it?

    1. 1

LOL, I can see why you wouldn't to be fair!

It's a way to bring standard ways of sharing information to life by using the interactive web rather than paper format... is that any better?

      1. 1

        Not really tbh.

  4. 2

I think the point that it's hard to figure what is about was already touched over and over in those comments.

I think you are focused too much on HOW, especially the HOW to do. I would try to touch the WHY and the benefits for the user you are targeting. What kind of updates, where are those updates published, and more important who is going to get them?

I also developed my own landing page for an MVP and after spending a ton of time on all kind of details, I came to the conclusion the best is to keep it minimalist, so you are forced to capture the essence, in a reasonable time. In the end time matters.

    1. 2

Love this, the WHY is definitely more important than the HOW. Our worry was always alienating other users with too specific focus on one way it could be used.

Your last bit about capturing the essence is spot on, short and sharp and too the point. Let their imagination and creativity do the rest.

      Thanks for this!

@ewhicher Just so I'm clear, this is a product that makes it easier for freelancers and agencies to send project updates for onboarded clients, correct?

    1. 1

Hey @GrowingSaaS - you are correct...in one way! This could be used for that, or updating an existing client on your progress so far. OR it could be a way to share an internal idea with your whole team. It could be used for what ever you want really...does that make sense?

      1. 2

Jesus, your comment has made everything more confusing. You have 2 choices:

        • be more concise with your landing page for a general audience while using segmented marketing to appeal to specified audiences.
        • or narrow your use cases down so that your product can be better explained and thus convert more users.
  6. 2

Hi Ed, you can tell that a lot of work went into the page and it turned out very appealing.

However, as mentioned in the other comments, I had a hard time to figure out what your product does.

"Updates made easy" and "Create interactive updates at lightning speed with Flya โ€“ the hassle-free way to bring your ideas to life".

With "update" being a ambiguous term and my technical background, I initially thought this is some kind of visual wizard to create software updates, which is clearly wrong ๐Ÿ˜„

Some of my raw thoughts when browsing the site:

    1. "Updates made easy" - Updating what? How can I update something without having created something first?
    2. "at lightning speed", "bring ideas to life" -> two marketing-heavy terms in the sub-line below the H1 . Feels like noise (sorry ;-) )
    3. What's the little image in the bottom-left corner of the hero image? I expected it to update (-> H1) somehow, but either this didn't happen or it was so unobtrusive that I didn't notice it.
    4. "Create visual stories" . That's the first hint of what you can actually do. But: What kind of story? (Instagram? TikTok? Web?).

Hope this is helpful. This stuff is hard ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. 2

Thanks so much for spending time reviewing the site and writing all this feedback - it's really useful stuff!

Your point 4 hits me hardest, we actually started with the h1 reading "Bring your ideas to life" but visual stories says even more.

I think your point on your technical background is key too, updates can mean many things to many people.

Thanks again for this @danielv ๐Ÿ’ช

  7. 2

To be super honest I have no idea what it is haha. What exactly am I updating? Is this sending like an email or text message to people or something? Do people have to download and app just to see my update. Those were my thoughts from landing on your page as an unaware user haha

    1. 1

Love it, thanks @chanchan - I can see where it might be confusing. It's proving super hard for us to nail down so this is really great insight to get back ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. 2

My first impression is that it's a tool someone can use to create a social media post about their product update. Is it so?

    1. 1

Hey @cao_wang ๐Ÿ‘‹ - not a social media post, no. What was it that gave you that impression?

      1. 1

Oh, I thought the pic with balloons was the end result created using the tool that can be posted on social media.

        1. 1

Well, it just makes a page that you can share anywhere really...so social media would be correct I guess.

          Thanks for the feedback :)
