Do you use a Project Management Tool for your side hustle?

Yes, I use Notion and Trello too, but occasionally find missing features like invoicing or client feedback. That’s why I’m building something lean that puts tasks, clients, and even invoices into one simple dashboard. What do you wish those tools handled better for real-world use?

My cofounder and I actually end up using google sheets. We tried trello (which I really liked) and Jira. But we use google drive for a bunch of our assets / posts / blogs that we're planning to write. So we just created a sheet, called it TODO's, and just tag our names to the tasks we are planning to do as well as having another column if where we fill out the priority level of it.

But we have't been able to move past the initial stages of our startups, I imagine as we get bigger we'll need to start using something else.

I actually use Notion, created my own template with it.

I’ve been using GitHub. Find there Projects tools are pretty useful. Also have discussions and can keep everything together with the code.

For me, it's Notion for every project.

We're a Microsoft 365 shop so I'm using Teams with its Lists feature that lets you use Lists in a Kanban style board. Pretty amazing flexibility.

I used Trello and Notion for some design projects. But now I realize that ClickUp is getting more and more relevant tool for me.
I used to think that it is too much for my UX designer eyes. But now when I started to kick off my productized design service I realize, it is one of the best tool.

• I can create different kanban boards for each of my clients.
• Automate their task creation with a form + other automations
• Email automation about status updates
• You can cancel your Loom subscription too 😅
• Document editing, time tracking, dashboard

So I think ClickUp is a very nice option. Coda is also a great tool but ClickUp is cheaper now. We'll see how long they will keep their Unlimited plan price low.

I use Asana (free) for non-develpement project management, 2 projects with 2 different people. For development project, I use clickup (paid), a cheaper Asana, 1 project with 1 dev.

We built Uclusion because there was no tool available for even two founders to reasonably collaborate asynchronously on building an application. Slack plus a separate tool for work items is a fail - you can only patch it up with a lot of meetings.

I like to use Notion for solo projects and projects with a team. I find it offers a good combination of tracking a projects progress using Agile methodologies - with the Kanban board feature and it also allows you to write documentation and share knowledge in different pages. Also, its super easy to share projects with other team members who have Notion too.

I have a mixed system: handwriting and Notion/Evernote.
I use the bullet journal system for rapid logging, brain storming etc.
Notion for planning, tracking, and Evernote for knowledge management.

Like your project, sadly your twitter DMs are closed. How long have you been working on it?

We use github & zenhub on top. The extra productivity and much better overview & flexibility was really worth the price.

We try to keep most things in tickets. If that is not possible, it ends up in Google docs & sheets.

Since side-hustle or early stage startups have very few people involved, I tend to use Notion and Sheets for sharing things with my co-founder.

Notion is good for sharing textual content like SEO improvements required, platform integrations etc. while Sheets does the job of revenue forecasting.

I use shortcut.com for all my side projects development tasks, and then notion to draft blog posts, feature development etc.

I used to use Trello, but they kept changing and moving tasks that were simple to do to other places and they started hitting an issue where they kept going down so switched.

I use Notion for the majority of things. It’s the right balance of structure and flexibility. Like others, I’ve used Trello, Airtable, Basecamp, Jira, etc. Notion hits the sweet spot.

For the moment I feel like Evernote is all I need, it's very affordable and easy to use. I naturally tend to build TODO lists, have always done so in plain text documents over the years. And Evernote allows me to do that and have my notes available everywhere, on my phone, etc.

For my side projects I am using projects in GitHub, and it's really sufficient for my needs :)

After years of using asana and jira in my fulltime jobs and trello (later - notion) for managing side hussles, I'm now a big fan of Obsidian which is just a standalone markdown editor, on steroids, thanks to a large number of plugins, including kanban, dataview. I'd suggest you guys to take alook at a few intro videos on youtube, at least about the kanban plugin. Why standalone and not one of those shiny online apps like notion? Because of speed - any standalone app is way faster in opening my texts, kb boards, etc. And with much lett distruction - you don't even need to touch your browser 😎

Right now I mostly use Asana as it's clear and simple. I used Trello for a while but backed off when I found Asana.

I use notion but for rough notes. It soon gets very unsystematic.

I used a lot of them but I feel when you know which task is important and have a roadmap that will help you achieve your goals within the deadline is what I was looking for. So I made https://saafone.club. Here you can add all your tasks with deadlines and an AI will make a calendar for you telling you what to do when.

Tried a bunch - Trello, Clickup, Notion, but I always keep going back to my sublime text editor.

Tried a lot of project management tool. If you have a big team and you work in agile or kanban i suggest Jira . Otherwise my opinion the best option is Asana

I'm a big fan of GitLab and it scales really well if you are working with someone on a project. The integration with your code enables being able to mention specific issues in your commits or leave messages on specific lines of code enabling a ton of productivity. If none of that is valuable then it still works as a simple to-do list or kanban board.

I'm using Confluence and Jira

I use Coda (https://coda.io/). I was on Notion, but Notion gets a bit expensive if you are bootstrapped and have team members as they charge per team member. With Coda, the charge is always for a doc maker while the other team members can create pages within the doc. Our team just needed 1 paid subscription. I also find conducting team retrospectives within Coda a bit easier as there are some good templates (with timers) in it.

This is actually a core part of my full-time job so it’s my time to shine:

#1: Notion is a solid free option with great templates and community. (I’ve been putting together some templates to share so let me know if anyone is interested)

#2 Trello, another good option but not as malleable as Notion and a bit more niche. Very user friendly though.

#3 Airtable, plenty of options and a broad piece of software with a lot of capabilities. I’m not as familiar with it but colleagues use it and rave about it.

#4 Google sheets, hard to wrong with the tried and true free option. Plenty of templates. They just won’t be pretty or have fancy integrations (for the most part)

#5 Jira. It’s just the worst. Don’t ever use this.
