Do you use real-time traffic reports on Google Analytics?

How often do you check real time analytics on GA?

I am doing this for research to try and understand the importance of real time analytics for product makers and marketers.

I used it everyday to monitor real time users in my site. I wrote a script to show real time user count on my chrome tab so that i don't have to click on it to see the number.

That is actually quite brilliant. Thanks Jason. I am working on an extension which would do exactly that.

there are many chrome add ons are doing that, they are just broken at this moment, if you have it working, i would love to use it. I prefer the user count on the tab though.

I check it if I think there should be a lot of traffic(Just linked from somewhere with lots of traffic) for a bit of a mental boost but I don't find it actually useful for anything but feeling good about my work.

@Shawn That's interesting. Are there times you open GA only to check the real-time metrics?

      1. 1

Yeah those times above are typically not times I'm looking to do any analysis. Just watching a bit of blinking lights

          Hey @shawn_maplegum

I've finally launched TrafficTicker (https://trafficticker.com). Please try it and provide your feedback. :)

That's a very honest answer and thank you for that. I am actually building a chrome extension which shows you the real time number of users on your website or app.

Would you be interested to test it out?

NO DATA IS EVER STORED ON THE SERVER. Except tokens and email and email address.

          Looks like this =>

I don't really use it for serious analysis work. Mainly just to keep an eye on the momentum of an initial launch/posting. The instant feedback from seeing people coming to a site is a rush of endorphins.

When was the last time you used it?

      1. 1

        Yesterday night if that helps

Would you be interested to try out a chrome extension i've been building which shows you the real time users based on GA?

GA for me has been sufficient so I'd have to give it a pass

            1. 1

              I appreciate it. :)

I am addicted to the real-time metrics. It's actually not really beneficial for me. It's motivation boost that quickly degrades into procrastination.

However when I do try to follow a user's flow in real time. Sometimes I as I link a user I know to the resource I can see how some changes I made take effect in real time. I think that's the only time it's actually boosting productivity.

To fight with it I made a CLI tool that monitors my websites/apps so that I don't have to open the google analytics too often. One day I plan to open source it :)

Brilliant. Send the link when it's ready. Also a feature request: make it play a sound for a particular property. Been wanting to add that to my cli :)

        1. 1

You mean to say a sound for when no of users crosses a certain number?

          1. 1

Actually I'd like a sound to play every time there's a new visitor :)

            1. 1

There would be a lot of tings man! It's one of the features which could get annoying real quick. :)

              1. 1

You can always disable it by default.

Nice! I downloaded. I'd like to be able to select multiple properties though. Set on as primary that will show over the icon. The rest I would like to see on hover/click on the icon.

Good job and congrats on shipping an MVP :)

                    1. 1

Multiple is what I'm working on right now. 😊

                      Thanks man
