Do you work on weekends?

I am a freelancer and work from 9-5 during the week. My work is also my hobby and therefore I am creating side projects. I am working on these projects mainly in the evenings or during the weekend.

Meanwhile, it was easy but we had a baby and it is a little bit more complicated now. I am drinking more coffee but I am able to finish at least one small thing every day.

I would like to know if you are working on your projects during the weekends?

    I'm not a employee & not have tight schedule during working days but most probably I like to work in weekdays where I gain more ideas & plan it efficiently compare to working days.

    I also had a baby & I give her more time in weekends but I choose to work when she is sleeping, playing with her toys or do self activity. Mostly I manage to work at Night.

    :)

    Yes, but not as much, and not on a set schedule. Uclusion is built around asynchronous collaboration, so when I have an idea or need input I just enter it in. My co-founder can reply whenever he wants. I find that less mental overhead than trying to remember stuff later.

      Where are you communicating with your co-founder? Are you using something like Asana/Jira/GitHub or Slack?

        We use Uclusion itself. The product replaces all of those.

    I don't work on my project during the weekends, it's important for me to take resting days to focus on other important things (like family!)

    However, I do respond to support requests during the weekend.

      Hi @Kilian. You decided right :) I am trying to do just very small things during the weekend. For example, I am writing comments on the indiehackers :)

    We do Zlatko! Even have some rooms at PeerPull if you want to check out of enterpreuners and freelancers to work together on some topics too :)

      Thank you, but I will stay here on indiehackers.com. I do not want to split my time between another network.

    I'm lucky that the vast majority of my customers for Zlappo work mostly only during the weekdays, so I have the privilege of taking my weekends off... which means I only work if it's an emergency (putting out fires, etc.).

    I know that well; my daughter is 1.5+ years old.
    Since her birth, I launched my iOS app and got it featured on the App Store. I worked on a couple other side projects as well.

    My "day job" is a company I co-founded, so I don't work at a 9-5 job, and we're still young (founded 2018) and are barely starting to figure things out.
    Nevertheless, I believe side projects are essential, they bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table, and they are also welcomed breathers.

    Some of my rules:

    • family and my main occupation are the absolute priority: any of their need comes first;
    • sleep: I've made the mistake of pushing myself through the night more times than I care to admit. No matter how tired I am, I get an energy/creative boost after 10pm. It works well when you don't have a kid, but when you go to bed between 1-2am, and your kid wakes up at 3am than 5am, you will quickly end up exhausted and subject to sicknesses;
    • fix ridiculously easy deadlines: if I think I can do something within a WE, I give myself a month. Because of rule 1, the amount of spare time I'll have for side projects will be 0% to 100% of what I think I have. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best;
    • do less and focus on the essential: this is a nice side effect actually because it forces me to stop thinking I can do every feature I can think of;
    • be more conscious of leisure time: I used to watch a lot more tv shows than I do now. I still watch some, because it's part of the quality time we have with my wife, but we talk about whether we'll press next or do our things. Before, we would just press next mindlessly.

    Side note: the most useful gadget to me is the Arlo baby cam. I open the Home app and use the picture-in-picture mode to watch my girl sleeping in the corner while I work. I don't have to worry about not hearing her as I'm working and listening to music.

    I use Saturday to tie up loose ends that I could complete during the week.

      Haha :) I was really interested in what Wikipedia said. "The workweek and weekend are the complementary parts of the week devoted to labor and rest, respectively." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Workweek_and_weekend

        Interesting how it emerged actually!
