I think the average founding age, which is 32.6, is more expressive than the average age of current CEOs. Personally I wouldn't say age itself matters, more like the experience that comes with it.
Overall this is good news to me personally as younger guy. Means I'm allowed to fail more often than I thought, perhaps :)

There will always be exceptions, it make sense to be a startup founder at +40 simply because of experience and knowledge, but that doesn't mean that a smart 20 year old wont make it tho

Every stage of life is learning, same with entrepreneurship. If learning have age limit, then I will agree this.

Taking the IPO as a measure is probably not what most founder is looking for.

Makes sense - experience counts for a lot in every walk of life. The only reason why this view doesn't prevail is that we are constantly being bombarded with success stories of twenty-something-year-olds making millions overnight on social media etc. It skewers our perspective of reality, and everyone thinks they can do it with no experience or skills.

interesting data! as a 30-year-old first time founder, i feel like i have the right amount of youthful audacity and wisdom through experience so far. 🙂

Age doesn't matter and at some point you will be as old as the other founder.

In reality to conduct yourself in a manner that others will see as informative and wise is usually obtained over time and experience. However, creating your own business and learning and growing with the venture is how to accelerate your growth and gives time to start again if all fails. In my experience I wish I had started earlier in my life starting a company but its always in hind-sight.

It will be interesting to see what the data says in say 10 years because I really feel like, with all the developments in the tech space, it's really opening doors to the younger generations. I think we'll see the average age go down because of this.
