Wondering if anybody here has tried scheduling time to come up with ideas.
What is your process? How often? What have the results been like? Do you stop the routine once you're working on project, or do you keep it going?
I've accidentally stumbled into "scheduled time" for ideas.
I think best when my mind is unfocused, which happens most often when I'm on a long drive or out for a long walk.
I go for a long walk every morning now before getting started with work, and these walks have been so helpful for new ideas and ways of thinking.
What are some activities that might do the same for you? Might you be able to add those into your day?
Definitely, I like the idea of "scheduling" time to have no structured thinking.
It seems like trying to to sit down and use some rigid process to generate ideas might not be the best option. I can come up with plenty of ideas this way, but none of them are very good or creative or interesting. It's like the problems that these ideas solve are not the true important problems to solve.
I couldn't agree more. I definitely do schedule time for deep work. But, whenever I've tried to implement this structured "creative time", I only make myself anxious.
I find that the highest-achieving founders I work with at my incubator are the folks who have a unique skill or experience from which they derive an idea. So, I'm curious, are you taking note of the things that irritate, frustrate, or annoy you within the context of your normal day?
I do keep a list in my notes app of problems I have, but I only add to it maybe once every couple days. I definitely have many more difficulties than that, so I must be missing plenty of problems to record.
Also, I find that if I don't think of a solution instantly as I'm recording the problem, there's a pretty slim chance I ever go back to think more about it.
