Does anybody use second online personality (Twitter, Facebook, whatever) for the side projects?

I am a software engineer by heart. Once I've a while I am doing a side project mostly for fun, sometimes with a small ad-based carrot for explaining to myself on why I spend time on it. I think on the peak I was making something like $200 a month in blog ads and not every month.

Now (in a big part thanks to this community) I am into trying more of a real micro-SaaS that could potentially bring something and is supposed to at least look like a real business. Yet I am not going to leave my day job, it is still more of experimental side project to me though with a bit of potential.

And then I got stuck with how to market it publicly. I have a Twitter profile with about 1k followers dinner if which are real, reasonably noticeable LinkedIn profile and some people around might know about my blog.

I am somewhat afraid of that if my SaaS adventure gets known at my workplace, it may raise questions about the loyalty and could effect the company image a bit (I am in the managerial role that is sometimes visible beyond the company borders). Yet SaaS side project is not intended to be a secret, I am not going into anything anti-company, I just don't want to pull attention to it, especially in the early phases (and further phases might never happen).

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do? Have you tried creating a second online profile (like an fresh empty Twitter account just for the side project(s)) or did it work fine for you while being completely public?

Sorry I realize it's been long since then - have you figured this out? I'd like to start but am struggling with the same analysis-paralysis (on top of being kinda an introvert, so not even feeling comfortable yet developing a Twitter personality)
