I'm a full-stack engineer and sometimes active trader who thinks there's a ton of room for improvement in the brokerage space for both active traders and more passive investors. For starters, incorporating algo trading and algo-assisted trading, and making it more accessible to retail investors & traders. I'm looking to find like-minded folks to chat & exchange ideas with to start, and maybe develop into a bigger collaboration.
I spent many years running the tech teams at different places, so I agree there is a lot of room to improve the brokerage exp for retail investors.
Algo trading for retail investors might require an advisor-like fiduciary responsibility since they are no longer self-directed and you're trading on their behalf. Certainly will need to do KYC - the questionnaire on risk-tolerance and investors might need a min income level/assets. Perhaps all possible, and great businesses start from pushing the envelope, but you might need an attorney familiar with brokerage regulations.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm definitely aware of the challenges around building a real brokerage, so to start with, I'm looking to build more of a brokerage frontend using a service like Tradier.
