Does anyone have any data/results from sponsoring newsletters?

I'm researching costs for paid sponsorship in newsletters and wondered:
- Does anyone recommend any newsletters in particular that had a good return?
- If so, what kind of visitor numbers did you receive vs cost?
My product is an online personal organizer so a good fit would be newsletters for indie devs, the self employed and freelancers who have to manage their projects and work-life balance - as I'm targeting these users.

We've sold ads at various types of rates: CPM (based on opens not subs), CPC (w/ guaranteed clicks). Flat Fees.
While I can't compete against FB click costs (less than $1 per click), I can help you find great newsletters that will like what they pitch.
I've mainly sold high cost SaaS product ads. With LTV of well over hundreds of dollars, therefore a CPC of $2-$3 per click was fantastic for a targeted audience.
If you're willing to give free trials, some newsletter writers might want to try your product first and then offer you a rate.
Have you thought of an affiliate program? Some newsletter writers do like this.

I run three small newsletters:
A personal one (~500 subs) about tech and startups. I include affiliate links in here and occasionally get a free month of Airtable from it. Not really interested in making money on it, just personal branding.
A niche jobs newsletter I just started this month (130 subs). Not charging yet, waiting to get to 500+ subs.
CFP Land (2000 subs). I make about $350/mo on this one split 70/30 between pro memberships (early access to newsletter content for $10/mo) and sponsors ($200/mo to sponsor).
Everything required to run them costs me about $100/mo (mostly MailChimp and Zapier).

I think everyone has a referral share link in their settings. It only gets you credit towards a paid Airtable account, but I've been getting pro features for free for years with it.
Thanks a lot for the info! It's interesting to hear that $2-$3 is considered fantastic, gives me an indication for budget. It's a side project with few paying users so I have to consider if it's worth trying newsletter sponsorship or trying out some Facebook ads first.
I bounce around some pros and cons, maybe you thought through these already.
It depends on how liquid your budget is.
FB ads are great for testing $5 a day.
Newsletter ads, generally, start at $50.
I have anecdotally heard that to be effective, you must spend over $800 a month on FB ads.
With $50 in FB ads you can try 10 different ad types.
You cant give FB a free product in trade. And FB isnt gonna write the ad for you in the way they know their users will react.
FB has a great dashboard that shows, money spent, clicks, and conversions. You can easily see if it works or not.
Newsletters are people and may follow you along your journey further than you expect. A newsletterer has a twitter account and a IH account. Can upvote, retweet, and keep sharing as you do other things.

I've sponsored unreadit a few times for different products.
• Sold one copy of Gravity ($500) for $50 sponsorship
• Got 2-3 signups for product tests for $25
On other occasions I've got no return but to be honest I'm pretty inconsistent with it, if I was running them on a regular basis I'd expect better results but it's still be profitable for me.
