Does anyone have experience trying to license a patent?
I'm investigating a idea that has patent potential and wanted to see if anyone had experience they could share on the licensing end. It seems to be a difficult route to license a patent so I wanted to ask if anyone has tried to do this and could share their experience?

I received a patent and here are some of my thoughts on the process:
So here's the advice I'd give to my younger self... just build the product, get traction and once you see proof of adoption you can file a provisional patent. If all goes well then you can file your non-provisional patent.
Cool thx! I was thinking that way. First do a provisional which I would write with this “how to patent yourself “ book. Then go test sell the garage made version. If get good traction fund the real patent with funds from the test sales. My goal is to license.
I have never done it so take this with a (small) grain of salt, I also don't know much about your situation.
Lawyers are expensive. And patents require lawyers.
It is generally only useful to get a patent when/if you can afford it -- since you can get a lot of the benefit just by proving that you built something first.

Yes licensing is a very different strategy vs the regular indie hack so that's why I put it out on the off chance that someone had actually done it here :) My suspicion is that the licensing road is much more difficult and odds of success are fairly low.
