Dude, I think this is the right line of thinking. My opinion: if Amazon or Google wants people to use Alexa or Google Home for anything other then smart home control and getting the weather/news, they have to initiate the conversation. Example: if they want to sell movie tickets , Alexa needs the the ability to sense when someone is in the room and verbally ask them if they want movie tickets. It would change the game for the whole ecosystem if they did that.
Yeah I posted the question to get a feel of how people use these devices. I've developed for both Alexa and Google before, but I don't use them personally. There are millions of these out there, so people have them and presumably use them, so what do they use it for and how?? What is the "killer app" for these devices? I guess home automation and music... seems like a waste of some of the most incredible technology...
I use it to control my lights through Hue, my TV through the Harmony, and my Nest. I also use a few different morning briefing skills every morning (NPR and some custom ones that give me weather, inspirational quotes, etc).
I mostly use my Alexa for weather, control my Sonos, news, and random measurements.
