Does competition drive your motivation down?

Competition is great, because it assures you that you're solving a problem that people face. If your competition has a lot of traction, it means your solution is more likely to achieve product-market fit.

This is what I used to think, however it has been driving my confidence down. I came up with an idea for a slack bot based on some inefficiencies I found in my day job, I started creating a landing page for a grouped solution.

I knew competition existed, but I thought I could bring more to the table.

However, when I saw a lot of features I imagined that already existed it makes my confidence go down. Has anyone else faced this?

    Hey 👋

I know how you feel. All I can say is look for a new angle something simple, something the bigger players are making more of a hassle than need be.. ( just my thoughts on this)

I always remember a Simpsons episode where Homer says to his brother ( that just invented a baby talk translator) you should have taken an existing product and stuck a clock in it. 😂

It makes me think of taking a great product that someone’s “stuck a clock in” and removing the clock!!

Yes, this is a weird way of looking at “product”, but it’s something that dawned on me in the early 2000s and I still think about. Maybe it’s helpful to consider, maybe it’s not. Either way, don’t give up. Keep going, keep looking , something will eventually pop and we’ll be reading that you’re making 10k MRR :)

Do not give up! Good luck! 🤞
