Does having different app name and domain name work fine?
Hey, I'm currently working on a side project. It will be mainly with Newsletter and an extension as well. As it's basically not an "app" I'm considering about ".xyz" domain name. The thing is I've decided the app name and designed a basic logo by my self (as this is for learning exp and will be free, I'm not considering about making this a very big thing) .
This is the issue.
Let's say my product name is proudli (which comes from proudly) , The domain for proudli.app is available . But I'm looking for proudli.xyz. But it's already taken. So, if I go with something like workproudli.xyz or something (some verb which matches the functionality of the app) at the beginning of the app name (as the domain), does it make sense ? Need advice because I'm thinking about buying and reserving the domain name today :)

Just yesterday I decided that it's confusing enough for my https://budgetfuchs.de getting a weird look from non-German speakers and got myself https://budget-fox.com The variant without the - wasn't available anymore but know what, it won't matter. We build up brands and names, those get google, the urls bookmarked and linked.
It's only when you have a rather confusing name like proudli where I'd suggest rethinking the name to make it easier to find on the search engines.
I wouldn't put a random verb infront of the name of the app if I could avoid it. Only company that has that (that I can think of) is probably https://store.steampowered.com and thats just because they have not been able to purchase http://steam.com/

But I'm thinking about adding a verb which gives the meaning of the functionality of the app. And the issue it, I have comeup with the app name by changing an existing word like proudly to proudli, so if I add the verb to the name, it'll be workproudli . So, that's why I'm confused and what I'm considering about.
I understand, however I would rather have that as a logo or somewhere large on the site.
The only time people are going to write the URL is when they are trying to find your app from memory, and then they probably wont be able to guess what verb was in front of the actual name.
I think a better idea of this is to design a landing page at work.proudli.XXX where you can push the message you want to push.
That also allows you to expand to other verbs in the future. Like read.proudli.XXX ect.. :)
So you mean like if I'm gonna use workproudli.xyz as domain it's better to make it as a logo or show it in the page as well.
The thing is www.proudli.xyz , that's why I'm considering www.workproudli.xyz . And it'll not be a web people usually visit due to it's functionality and extension.

I mean that instead of having it in the domain, you should consider having it in the logo or showing it on the page. Since the reasoning for having it was "adding a verb which gives the meaning of the functionality of the app.".
I dont think the TLD is very important, then again maybe the domain name isn't either :P But I would rather go with another TLD than another domain name.

Thought about using app TLD instead of xyz, but then I searched for instagram, fb, twitter pages for the name. all are taken

What is vastly more important is what happens when people just type the name into search, both in the app store and Google.
It's a pet hate of mine that people adopt common words for product names and even software libraries.
One of the most stupid naming things I think I've seen relatively recently is for a rather nice product - "Flow" is a developer tool for code generation and animation and they picked that name having to settle for the URL createwithflow.com. There's already a project management product called Flow and people use the term very heavily so it's going to search badly.
