Does My App's Name Sound Decent?
I wanted a simple Sudoku app, but all the ones I found were so terrible.
- Ads literally everywhere.
- When you play ads play at the bottom
- Every 2-3 moves, you have to watch a video ad
- Every game you have to watch a video ad
- Stupid money grabs
- They have levels, challenges, and a lot of unnecessary gamification
So, I decided to build a simple Sudoku app. It's something I want and it's a good test of my skills before I build more complex apps.
I decided to call it Not Evil Sudoku. I feel like having a negative in the title is a bit bad.
What do you think about the name?
I'm a bit late to the party here, but this name reminds me, at least in spirit, of Zach Gage's Good Sudoku. That shouldn't necessarily dissuade you, but it's worth keeping in mind.
Pretty cool. I was looking to build something clean and simple. I would be happy if it made money but more than that it's just a way for me to practice building apps 😁
I get the mindset behind the name, and I like the idea. But as others have mentioned, misinterpretation could be a problem.
If you're looking for other approaches, something like Simply Sudoku might portray the ad-free intent without blatantly saying it. I looked into recipe websites/apps with the same approach (recipe websites are the worst for ads), and most of them had names like Just the recipe, Simply recipes, Only Recipe, etc... Plus I like alliteration, so Simply Sudoku is nice. But I haven't checked availability, just something that popped in my head.
Great idea. I was thinking of calling it Simple Sudoku (mostly because I didn't want to get attacked if my puzzles weren't good enough 😅), but Simply Sudoku is way better. Although there is an app on the AppStore with a very similar name: Simply, Sudoku. Will have to look into that.

Bro, I would just call it "No Ad Sudoku" because the keyword 'evil' might not really be intuitive to understand for folks not knowing your story.

I will never download 'Ad Free Sudoku', because I will think it's a scam or some half-baked app.
Maybe you should create a logo around this name, but choice is yours.

Whenever I see Ad free or No Ads I'm apprehensive about installing it...always seems suspicious for some reason.
Just beware of the possible misinterpretation. Since the name of your app is Not Evil Sudoku, it might imply that there is an Evil Sudoku game, where Sudoku in itself is somehow evil.
Without specifying that the Not in Not Evil Sudoku refers to no-ads, no-money-grab, someone might think that this is not an ordinary Sudoku game.
Or not, this is just my two cents.
Besides that, the name is good :) And the idea is good, there are plenty of get-cash-quick obnoxious apps out there, this one looks like a refreshment.

It's also not very catchy. Maybe it'll be NotEvil Sudoku. Seems a little better. Just having Evil in the app name seems questionable.
Still not sure at this stage. I'll finalize the name before I put it out or monetize it.
The name definitely draws attention, so I wouldn't say it's bad at all. You could call it Free Sudoku or Ad Free Sudoku if you wanted to put your offerings in the name, but I think the name "Not Evil Sudoku" is also a pretty good one. It definitely arouses curiosity.
