I've shown my project to a few people and more often than not they don't really know what it is. I've made some changes to try and make it a bit more clear and was hoping to get some fresh eyes on it to tell me what they think it does.

Thanks
It’s clear from the standpoint of what the service does. But the value of that service isn’t clear.
The most compelling messaging you have, in my opinion, is buried on a separate page. Why not position it up front as an alternative to forums filled with fake accounts?
Also, I wouldn’t label the quotes you use as testimonials. That’s a bit deceitful. Testimonials are people talkings specifically about a product or service.
Hope that helps. Best of luck!
Appreciate you looking through the site Sean.
So people leave voicemail, do you then auto transcribe and give it as a useful format for the recipient so they can take action on 1000s of voicemails ?
That's pretty close! So after it's transcribed, depending on your settings it's either automatically published to your page, or it shows up on dashboard where you or any of your moderators can manually approve it first. There aren't any bulk actions like deleting 1000s of voicemails at a time.
The format of a published voicemail is basically the transcript with a play button and some actions you can take like clap/boo/edit/download/etc.
Do you think I should try and put more of these details on the landing page to make it more clear? Or maybe just a link to an active message board so that people can see what their board would look like? Something like, "Click here to see a message board in action".
@most, basically you don't want people to click. Every click is friction. One should be able to see value prop by simply scrolling.
transistor.fm is a site that I think has a great landing page. You could probably borrow a few ideas from there.

how does that sound?
Makes sense. Transistor.fm makes it clear as day what they're doing, definitely can learn something from them like how they give some high level info about what I presume are their most compelling features without going in to too much detail.
I do think a big difference is that when people go to transistor.fm they have an idea of what they are looking for, namely something they can use to publish their podcast. Right now people aren't exactly seeking out voice-based community message boards.
It's a message board, where you can only leave a message by calling a number and leaving a voicemail - right?
If so, why not try putting the message that starts "Our goal is to democratize speech by making..." front and centre when you land on the page? It both says what it does, and says by doing.
That's exactly right Rob, thanks for taking a look. That voicemail you're referring to is a new addition and I was a bit verbose in the explanation there because I didn't wanna leave any room for confusion. It looks like it helped get the point across.
Also, I checked out inqu.is and it seems like something I could get a lot of value from so I signed up for the beta!
No problem at all, happy to help...and thanks for signing up for the beta!
