Does the TLD matter?

The post title pretty much sums the question up, should I give up on a better brand name for a .com, or is an alternate TLD with a catchier domain name fine?

As an alternative domain, I have my eyes on .xyz and .orgs. I have seen a lot of crypto startups use .xyz unabashedly, and I like it too. What do you think?
