Does Wait-Lists still work in 2024?

Almost every new app or startup I see they create waitlist months before the launch. I personally don't signup up for products unless something is really unique. I am also about to launch my app in a few weeks but I don't know what's the conversion rate of waitlist signups into actual users. I have created the waitlist anyways https://tryoutskill.com/ . Just want opinion of you guys

What you’re seeing is less about whether a waitlist “works” and more about the relationship you build with those early sign‑ups. A waitlist doesn’t automatically convert to paying users; it’s a way to gauge interest and nurture a community by sharing progress and soliciting feedback while you build. This usually happens when founders treat the number of emails collected as a success metric rather than engaging with those people. The conversion rate depends on whether you keep them excited and whether the eventual product solves a real pain.

    Hi.
If you're still building your product, feel free to submit it to the waitlist directory I am building https://indiewait.com/submit-waitlist

I did have the same question some time ago and it really looked like waitlists actually work according to my research. A waitlist brings multiple benefits, something like generating a buzz, validating your idea, building a community. But it's not like you create a waitlist and wait for a miracle to happen, you need to invest some of your resources (usually time) to promote it.

I'm also working on a project that will help to quickly create really simple but rather effective waitlists for the coming soon projects. Planning to include every important feature into a forever free plan. Let me know if you are interested so I notify you when it's ready to be launched (should be something around this month).

Awesome! What have you decided for the waitlist marketing? How will you get waitlist signups and most important thing is converting waitlist signups to actual users

Hey man, I am releasing the product for the waitlist landings soon - would be very happy to hear your feedback on how comprehensive, easy and functional it is. Since you got your hands on a waitlist yourself recently, your opinion would mean a lot to me. Can I contact you somehow, like via Twitter, email or anything else? Or reach out to me on Twitter @ar_thewaterfall.

First of all I decided to avoid paid ads (at least in the beginning). Then I do promote as if I promote a finished product, find niche communities and groups - and promote yourself there, but as usual, it should not be aggressive and spam promotion. Your goal is to target people who can actually find your product helpful for them.

To convert waitlist singups to actual users you should engage with your potential users - let them know about any updates or news, tell them when you are about to launch (and probably provide such users with some benefits like discount, longer trial period, or whatnot; this must certainly bring a user to your product).
