Doing things differently for black Friday this year

Hey!

Being an independent course creator, I decided to do things slightly differently this year for Black Friday as I am not a huge fan of how Black Friday overly promotes consumerism.

Here's what I did:

  • I reduced the discount from 30% to 15% this year
  • I added the following note under the discount:
Black Friday note: we don't promote consumerism. Please do not buy the course if you won't use it.

I added this to the 3 courses: Learn JavaScript, React Tutorial and Learn Programming

A bit of details on this: I live in the Netherlands and Black Friday is something that only recently made it here and a lot of people don't like it. However, I do have quite a lot of users from the US which is why I made the discount anyway. However, the discount is 50% less than last year, so I might be (in true developer terms) "deprecating" in the coming few years.

Another reason why I was compelled to do this is because I genuinely care about students learning whatever they sign up for, and making a spike of payments on 1 week of the year is not something I can feel proud of.

What do you think?
